'Avoid paying to upgrade now, go for the free version and wait for the inevitable blowout sale next year' is hardly a ringing endorsement of the IK approach is it? (yes, I'll be doing this approach too, of course).

It’s the only way they’ll learn though.

You get updated models, the same cab functionality you currently have but based off improved models of the cabinets, resizable GUI, and more features than AT4 currently offers all for the low, low price of free.
Just to make sure there is no additional confusion, with CS you don't get "resizable GUI" at least according to this link:

I get what you're saying by taking the free version then waiting. That's probably the best long term approach.

Let me ask the other guitar players in this thread do you really use a lot of different amp models for your core sound? Do you really need to sound like Brian May and Slash and Dimebag, and Satch and Hendrix all in the same day?

To be honest I don't. I'm still looking for that one AT Amp that I can build my core sound around that will replace my Johnson J Station hardware amp modeler in Rectified mode.

The AT Mesa amps come somewhat close but there is still a disconnect between the guitar and the amp and the playing that I don't encounter with the J Station.

Whether that disconnect has been removed in AT5 is yet to be seen but I am not overly optimistic. However I'll give it a shot after it's released and it goes through the nearly inevitable post release beta testing and quality control that seems to happen with every new IK release. :tu:

Amplitube 5 CS has resizable checked. First column is CS 4.

The V5 CS will be a good option for many, and won't need any money or any incentive to try it out. Comparing things, it was hard not to give away the farm, but they came close :scared: Competition is fierce. I've read that V4 and V can co-exist, which also moots some concerns,

So you get 24 simultaneous models instead of 57...I might have used 7 once, maybe...that's a dead-cat-bounce restriction.

No stomps on DI or post-mixer ...bad day to be a cat... :hihi:

Rack FX positioning post-mixer and on DI ...meeeowwwwTHUDDD Thud thud...

The looper, recorder, ...I assume they all will be unlocked for A4 owners, as mentioned in the comparison PDF, and as for the mixer,
I usually mix as I set up the gear chain anyway ...here, kitty kitty kitty

VIR cabinet technology ...now that alone could be worth the $99 V5 SE for some people. I've never used or missed using any IR tech, maybe I'm far too easily dazzled, or just use Raum too often :dog:

Peter - IK Multimedia wrote: Wed Nov 04, 2020 10:39 pmwe don't use noisebursts for demoing via Custom Shop so if you hear those that typically means Custom Shop isn't open in the background and/or you're not connected to the internet while demoing. If you are outside of the demo period or haven't authorized the gear/collection then you would hear the noisebursts but they're not part of the normal demo process.
It's tough to provide a useful demo that isn't so useful that it removes purchase incentive. In my experience, it's rare to get a Custom Shop timeframe to test thoroughly, but it could be assumed that someone who knew what they were after would know in 30 minutes if they wanted/needed the tested something. In my choppy little universe, the noisbursts are maddening, but my first Amplitube came with the original Stealthplug (still alive and kicking :hyper: ) so I was confident in future purchases without often getting blasted :hihi: I suspect the fadeout would inspire more purchases in the long run, than it's evil twin

Yes
For me not every day, maybe every 2 days...Except for B May, which is maybe once a month.

Yes
The concept of a 'core sound' is a little foreign to me. My Fender usb amps have tons of core sounds, so I want access to everything and more, once I'm in a computer setup. I was surprised how much fun it is to explore the amps and gear combos in A4 MAX. I had imagined there would be massive and pointless duplification, but instead there is massive creative potential. :hyper:

Not to mention some history lessons gleaned along the way.

My purchases are for potential, and for access to both sounds as yet unknown, and to historic or personal sounds that are dearly loved.
Cheers

DFoisie wrote: Thu Oct 29, 2020 5:36 pm Definitely disappointing, and herein lies the problem I've had with IKM for awhile: complete lack of loyalty towards those who have purchased in the past. Despite having total studio max 2, there is no upgrade pricing (same intro for everyone new/old) and the only option that will likely benefit me now (aside from the free version) is amp 5 max. I really enjoy your plugins, but the business choices are less than ideal. I understand its cheaper than me buying the expansions individually, but don't you see that people who have yet to invest anything in AmpliTube are to benefit exponentially more. Just makes no sense. I'm better off waiting till total studio 3 to upgrade than to buy amp 5 and have to try to sell it later (which im far too familiar dealing with when I chose to upgrade to total studio max 2). Rant over.
Not true. New users would pay $/€100 more than the listed AmpliTube 5 MAX upgrade/crossgrade pricing for example. Please see the news for the information and it states the prices listed are upgrade/crossgrade and new users definitely show $/€100 more when on our site (just verified this yet again, since I thought there must be an error for people to miss/misunderstand this repeatedly but alas, it is there).

Seems a touch extreme to ask current users who have probably paid several hundred Euros in the past, to now pay €299 plus VAT (so €359) when a new user could get it from €399.

Are most updates from other companies not doing this the other way around, like they've already got the several hundred from their existing users, so only charge them around €100 for an upgrade?
Yes, it's awful to offer not only the full new gear and features of a massive update AND $680 worth of collections for less than half that...
I think you've missed my €40 point, and 7 thumbs down suggests you didn't need to address someone recommending your MODO line in their signature like this.

I'll save my money for MODO guitar, if Plugin Alliance don't release an update to their guitar line before then that could tempt me to their subscription, given it's effectively free after $249 cashback to spend in their extremely generous sales throughout the year. Must be tough competion, I'd be stressed.

I mean if IKM were able to offer custom upgrades to former customers, including taking into consideration the overlap of owned T-Racks gear and paid for packs which for whatever reason weren't considered to jump between AT4 and AT4 Max then it could prevent another thumb down from myself.

It's not about "sounding like" Brian May or Slash or Dimebag or Satch or Hendrix. It's about having the Vox AC-30 and treble booster from the Brian May Collection, and the MXR SmartGate and Chorus models from AmpliTube Slash, and the JC-120 and Crybaby from Dimebag, and the JVM and vintage Marshall cab from Satch, and the Gold Plexi and Echoplex models from Hendrix. And then combining the Hendrix Plexi with the Brian May Vox cab and the Satch Greenbacks to create a Marshall Bluesbreaker.

These are all staples in my work.

@ Peter from IK

Sorry if I have missed this, but I have not seen any official answer to the many questions regarding being able to hide gear/presets you cant run as you don't own the gear?

This has dominated previous A4 threads and is sites as one of he main reason people (including me) don't like using A4

Please confirm that this will be the case in AT5, it is probably the most important feature as far as I am concerned.
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

It's weird that these threads always happen with IK. :)

In my case having MAX 4 and a couple of additional collections I will probably live with CS until I see a pricepoint I can accept for MAX. Totally fine with this, it's a free upgrade after all. But IK won't get any money, at least not right now. Regarding the presets I always wipe the ones I don't have gear for from the disk, annoying but much better than getting the popup.

I must confess that amplitube gets less and less use though...
