Everyone involved in this project is clearly talented. On this particular song, I am questioning the structure. There is an interesting song in the middle sandwiched by proggy shredding before and after. The whole thing doesn't seem like a unified work. Or perhaps I am not enough of a prog fan to get it?

I appreciate the listen and comments. The song is about the recent fires in Western US. The faster sections are meant to represent the terror of the fires while the middle section is the description through the lyrics and music. The change of tempo, time signature, and tonality is intended to support the story.
I think the listener is entitled to interpret as they see fit and it is a valid point of view. No need to be a prog fan. Thanks!

jcub,
At one point recently, a robo-call said I might have to evacuate, though fortunately the fire department put out the fire before it made it to my neighborhood. It did burn some houses a few miles from me. Fires in California are a fact of life for thousands, if not millions of years. It's typical we don't significant rain for months at a time, at a certain time of the year. Anyway, this song reminded me more of Yes, especially with the vocals. It all sounds very good to me, no complaints.

Thanks. I am glad you are safe. Maybe it is my perception from the East Coast US that things were worse this year.

Enjoyed it a lot!
More YES that RUSH this one for me...a little fragmented in terms of its musical development compared with TIME MACHINE...maybe that was intentional considering the context?

Thanks! Yes, the intention was to have two contrasting parts of the song - one being more narrative and the other more visceral. One challenge in the prog rock genre is having too many parts or having parts that don't flow well together. I try to more mindful of that as I get older!
In one of my earlier bands, we discovered as we listened back to recordings that we tended to repeat parts one too many times or have one part too many. Lately, I find I am cutting out unnecessary repetitions and parts. But maybe I need to be more aggressive in my editing!

Sounds cool Jeremy. Plenty of great stuff happening. Maybe the drums could punch through more on the louder metal bits. I can appreciate the idea of the fire season living in Australia. The section at 3:30 is fabulous. Enjoyed it!

Thanks very much! We were in Sydney about a year ago when the fires were just starting. Beautiful city.
