The FB group "Ambient and Experimental Music Community" have just released another compilation album on Bandcamp. The challenge for this one was to create a track exactly 1 minute long. https://aemc.bandcamp.com/album/one-minute-compositions

I'm there as Mark Ellery Griffiths "Summer's Gone"

Nice one! The unpredictable chime sounds work well in this piece.

Interesting...Enjoyed the listen...yours + 10 random selections.

Each one had a distinct 'personality' (yours fitted the title very well - nice sound combos in there)!

Two frustrations with the compilation in general:

Lack of continuity of musical ideas with the central focus being quite vague...(1 minute)!

1 Minute only - most of the ones I listened to, I wanted them to be developed further!

Yours felt like a 'complete miniature', but one or two just felt like they'd been cut short at the 60 second mark and hadn't really been structured properly...creating a musical miniature is a different kind of composing that requires an unusual 'scale' of thought process, shape and form.

thanks for the comments. My stuff tends to be short and is partly informed by the library music I did where you have to get in and back out again in 2.5 mins. Even so this piece was alot looser than I usually do. Glad you liked it.

Just to add, the other compilations on AEMC are interesting. We all send in 2 samples, a pack is created from that and we all make a track using only those samples. I'm working on my first contribution now.

That explains why yours had a bit more structure than some, then!

I know what you mean about Music Library writing...spent 3 months just writing 30 - 45 second long idents... and at the moment I'm creating Sonic Brands for a group of scientific companies...

Complete musical identity in 3 - 4 seconds!

All must be linked to the parent company's Sonic Brand, but must also have their own discrete identity!

(Think I'll go back to composing something easy like a Cello Concerto afterwards to bring the intensity down a notch! :)

Looking at both your BCs, have you ever come across:

Just mentioning it as Stuart who runs it has a lot of high profile projects across each year and it might well be in your 'musical ball park' as such...sorry, naff cliched phrase!

Did you get paid like Kraftwerk? About £200,000 for 6 notes?

That does look interesting. There was a guy that did a musical piece that included accents as you go down a river. I'm interested in field recordings specific to a time or place.

I wish! Take off 3 zeros and you're nearer the mark!

Your track has a nice feel to it. There is plenty of variation here... 8)
In a way the whole thing reminds me of advertising and the Residents "Commercial Album".

The Commercial album was one of my favourites.
