If the cabs sounded as good as a high quality IR in the same mic position that would be an improvement. There seems to be several layers of de/convolution processing behind the mic and speaker swap features in AT4 which takes a toll. I've referred to the result as sounding "veiled" previously.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Sat Nov 21, 2020 9:53 pmThis was what I was wondering as well. The claim is that it sounds better, but I suspect it sounds more realistic in terms of moving from one position to another, but I don't see why this technology would sound any better than an IR at the exact same position. Increased resolution gives more control, but doesn't increase accuracy at a given position.jamcat wrote: Fri Nov 20, 2020 10:25 pm Does VIR sound "virtually indistinguishable" from miking a real cabinet, or is this claim really only talking about the user experience being like moving mics around a real cabinet?
Is the sonic experience going to sound noticeably more realistic with VIR in AmpliTube 5 from AmpliTube 4 in a static head to head comparison of any given mic position?
If they are using more real-world swapping and less artificial algorithmic swapping, or have introduced some new techniques that create less artifact build-up, or introduce more dynamic speaker response/distortion than standard linear convolution can produce, then we could hear a higher quality coming out of the cabs+mics. There is definitely room for improvement to the core sound.
But IK has yet to give us any head-to-head comparisons for us to see what to expect.

Reference guitar sounds, a chord and a riff, could be released, each with about 12 seconds of silence. These could be looped in a media player, when played back for recording with A4 and A5, the twelve seconds allows time to switch amps, and keep the tail-out of the chord.
Some basic cuts edits would prepare the A/B of whatever collections are available.
Everyone can do their own comparisons once a release of the free version is out. The pic is the amps from A4 MAX, last to first in the selector list, sounding a strum of the lowest 8 open strings on an electric twelve-string, with each amps default setting. You might be able to pick out the high-gain amps, if you squint real hard. About 8-10 seconds each, allowing for tail out, although a few were curtailed by several seconds.
Lacking scientific precision, and no doubt subject to gui bias in the act of the strum
I at least picked a new favorite amp for the current weekends toonsmitting

Agreed. Arturia do that on their site. You have sound samples and a little FX button toggle thingy. With and without FX to hear the difference. But we are not talking about classy Arturia here.. we are talking about IKM.. the guys that dump and pump all the trial demos into your system every time you update any of their plugins.glokraw wrote: Sun Nov 22, 2020 12:59 am Reference guitar sounds, a chord and a riff, could be released, each with about 12 seconds of silence. The idea behind product demos, is to inspire purchases in a tough marketplace. Having to dodge unwanted presets while using a product you paid good money for won't inspire

for years, now.
I think the only way to access unlicensed capabilities, should be by the user willfully turning on a clearly marked option, with that option OFF by default, and when ON, the 'extras' are all segregated into separate menus/locations. This will let customers focus a little more on productivity, and a little less on product upkeep. The Custom Shop offers all the demo capability I need, and has led to purchases. Can't say that for unwanted preset invasions. I want IK (and the competition) to prosper, so that more and better gear is developed.

So where's this 30-minute in-depth video presented by melodic guitarist Neil Zaza that walks us through many of the new features and sounds available in AmpliTube 5?
Edit:
Nevermind, I found it myself.
Skip the first 15 minutes.

EDIT #2:
Actually, just skip the whole video. It is extremely low on content.
It doesn't show any of the new gear or the cab section AT ALL. Just some wanking about.

I think everyone would like some A/B comparisons of the old gear Vs how the new improved sounds (as there isn’t that much new gear)
Given that release is fairly imminent, can’t you let a few impartial people do some YT reviews, it would be nice to see someone plug a guitar in and just use it!

Stop being ridiculous, why would anyone want to see that? There's plenty of audio demos with no context, just buy it because IK have told us it's good.SLiC wrote: Mon Nov 23, 2020 10:22 pm it would be nice to see someone plug a guitar in and just use it!

Like I said before, there will be more audio demos (and they'll have context) as well as more videos. Glad to see the excitement for AmpliTube 5, and we'll have it out as soon as possible (along with those additional audio demos and videos). Thanks.
