Hi, does anyone know a way to play and record e.g Rickenbacker 12 string guitar. I mean ... play on a real guitar and NOT on a keyboard. I tried a few VST’s like Orange Tree. The sound is good, but playing it on a keyboard or through midi is horrible!

I don't quite get your question.
My answer would be: you (or somebody else) plays and records that Rickenbacker you want the sound of?

Indeed, not getting the question really..

The way I get a usable facsimile is putting my cheap and nasty 'Shitenbacker' gear4music solid body 12 string (£100 not £3000.... :hihi: ) through the mighty Blue Cat Re-Guitar plug in, some compression, and an amp sim with suitable jangle capacity - in this case the Plug & Mix 'Magic Queen'

I mean this: Cubase 10, keyboard connected to PC and guitar connected through soundcard. Like most of us here I want to record in Cubase. When I need a Hammond, I use a VST and PLAY and Record Hammond. When I plug in my electric guitar, I can PLAY guitar, use Guitar Rig and have loads of good sounding guitars. But ....
When I want to have the typical Rick 12 sound I can use a Rick VST but I have to play my keyboard to get the sounds, which has nothing to do with guitar playing, so it sounds pretty awkward.
So I’m looking for a way to play (and record) Rickenbacker guitar with my ‘normal’ Gibson electric guitar.

Thanks for the Fishman advice!, I looked into into it and it’ll probably work... I think ... It’s advertised as a way to play Hammond, synth, drums etc on your guitar. Fishman indicated that it would work, but buying a midi pick up (200 to 350 €) for just the Rick 12 string sound ... too much money. Thanks again for the good tip, but I’m looking for something more affordable.

‘Shitenbacker’ would be an idea! Thanks a lot!
I tried something similar with my acoustic Yamaha 12 string, but I couldn’t find the right sound ... I’ll try again and see if I can do it your way with the Yamaha and if not, go for a imitation Rickenbacker.

check these guys. some peeps on the tube manage to play music with these things.

https://migic.com/

I wish Ample Sound did a 12-string Rick. Rather play that than Orange Tree.

It's really this;

But 'shitenbacker' sounds good!

I do mock it, but for £100 it's actually a serviceable, playable guitar and came well set up etc. Sure there'll be similar where you are - they tend to make these in the same factories and sell them under different brand names etc.

Weird, I was just thinking about Rics. I can’t remember why I put on a Byrds album for my daughter... that sound. I fell in love with it when I heard Ticket To Ride by the Beatles. Never got the money up to buy one, but a band mate of mine did. Some vintage model. Great sounding instrument. Someday I may expand my collection and get one, though my music doesn’t really call for it that much these days.

Tried free trials for Jamorigin and Migic as well. Both didn’t work for me. Maybe I did something wrong. Problem is also that I can’t find a shop where I can see and hear it work.

My biggest problem is the keyboard. It’s another instrument ... especially when picking or strumming. Writing out in midi isn’t a big success either.

Also, you could have a look at the Digitech Mosaic. Doesn't seem totally convincing to me (a bit pitch-shifty), but I've only seen the videos on youtube etc.

It does sound good. I can order it here in The Netherlands for about €115. I might go for that one!
