Well you can't
I'm sure there are ways round - they are the ones defaulting on license agreements if this is true so I don't owe them anything.

I think their Lifetime Free Updates scheme is bound to cause problems like this. You amass an amazing amount of customers who expect continuous service for years without spending another dollar on your stuff.

If IL even charged just $10 per major upgrade they would probably be home free as far as financial security is concerned. But they can’t since they have always promised it for free, forever.

I hope they raised a lot of cash during their All Plugin edition sale though.

But hey, they have survived for many years now and they may have other sources of recurring revenue.

I'm not interested in buying an NFR license from anyone

Just remember their policy is to lock accounts that were taken over.

I'm admittedly not a legal person but if ceasing development of a piece of software causes you to violate the license agreement specified in its entirety by your own company I think you should probably fire the person who wrote it.

point: I bought a number of their instruments/effects primarily to be used as VSTs outside of FL Studio

counter-point: I've had so many issues with the VSTs being used outside of FL Studio that I rarely use them

The only ones I would really miss are Harmless and Vocodex.
the old free version may not work boots successfully on new generations of computers, instruments, and hardware

I wonder if we'll see changes vis-a-vis lifetime free updates.
Ah man, if they stop lifetime free updates, that'd be another punch in the throat. :?

Granted, I've gotten my money's worth tenfold. I guess I'm just sore from the news about their VSTs.
I think it is inevitable that they stop the free lifetime updates. My guess is sooner rather than later since this news.
Probably right, pdx. :(

I own everything they make...all the VSTs etc. And I use them quite a bit. I see no reason to stop using them. End of development hopefully won't be a major issue as I have been using them some time, and most all are 64 bit.

Additionally some of the resizable GUIs in the later versions are great. Whatever this means for IL, I hope the best for them moving forward.

Well it wouldn't be LIFETIME then.
Of course they are not gonna end it. Can you imagine the outrage?

They never claimed Lifetime free updates for their VST plugins, only for FL Studio itself.

Also Scott from Image-Line:
While I don't agree with your logic - These guys buy and use the DAWs they like. We have plenty using FL Studio, the VST plugin availability is moot at this point.

However, why is this tiny market demographic suddenly important?

FL Studio sales have been doubling every other year for the last 8. Before that it was more like 10-20% year/year.

The product is desirable, robust and growing like a weed. We will do whatever we need to do in order to focus development on the core application.

The reason VSTs have been out of focus is they account for a tiny percentage of revenue. Single digits and we needed developers working on the core application.

What we have in mind for VSTs will take a little while.

Until then. They work as they did last month and are being updated about as frequently.

I think some of their instruments as harmor and drumaxx could compete int he broader plugin market, sad to see they dump them.

Their not resale policy probably hurts them a lot more in plugins than in the DAW.
