As per the subject title, can somebody tell me a good microphone for recording the sound of my television in the house? I have a Focusrite 2i2 interface with XLR or jack.
I was thinking about getting a Sony PCM D100 handheld recorder, but i don't think i can justify the price because i can hardly walk far. I realised what i would mostly use it for is for recording television, but i suppose a good mic would cost much less.

I record bits of tv but was unhappy with my handheld digital & the recording app in my tablet. Finally bought an old dynamic Mic (audio technica) for 10 bucks off Craigslist (pre pandemic). It's propped up in a toilet paper roll (full, Charmin) next to the tv so I don't have to get up from my 'station' to record. Just plug the other end in to my pc and go.

"Charmin", is that the brand? I'm not sure we have this brand in UK. I wonder if Andrex would suffice.
Thanks

Taking a different approach.
Why not simply see if you can stream the broadcast on your pc and record directly.
If adverts YouTube.
Anything else is generally available on line Live or catchup.
Just a thought

Thanks, but my internet connection is unreliable. I'll bare it in mind for the future though.

I just thought: wouldn't the sound streaming on internet be compressed compared to the natural sound of a television? Maybe not because it is digital tv not analogue in UK nowadays, but i did wonder.
Second thought: On You Tube i only have adverts for Waves and Native Instruments and something called Unison chord pack. It's not adverts i want to record anyway, it's old movie soundtracks i want to record.

Its not a bad idea especially in a case you know you want dialogue from some particular old film etc, chances are you can find it on YouTube then just direct line it in

I'm gonna try Audacity. It's supposed to be able to record stream.

Most (if not all) TV's have line outputs. Sometimes it's on SCART, sometimes accessible via HDMI. Anyway, one needs to have better sound than the built-in speakers.
Is there a set-top-box maybe inbetween the antenna cable and the TV itself? Can you post the details of your TV so we can look up it's exact connectivity on the back?
