How do you Live like that?! ;) :D

To "celebrate" Live 11 release today as well as the complex present, past & future relationship and coexistence of both DAWs, I figured it could be interesting to actually see where Bitwig user base stands with regards to Live. I see many outspoken Bitwig users in Live 11 thread, I'm aware of several people moving back & forth - myself included - so I'd love to see the numbers
Obviously, I'd appreciate if you only voted if you're actually and actively using Bitwig, because otherwise the results will be hard to interpret.

Then why make the "I have switched to Live" poll option?
I received the email saying the Live 11 download is in my account. Maybe in a month or two I might download and try it out. I'm satisfied with my setup and workflow with Bitwig and Logic.
I don't think Ableton even notices Bitwig. They are competing with Logic, Studio One and Cubase.

Right, my bad I assumed the switch would be recent(ish) and the person still lurks here
Right, but I think Bitwig users notice Live as something that's closest alternative to Bitwig, when they don't want to go full "linear DAW" route. Hence why the thread is posted here, rather than in General DAW forum

Bitwig was kinda born out of Live, but at this point, I really don't think of them as connected anymore.
There is still so much that Logic does that Live doesn't. Same with Studio One. Live is a poor linear DAW in comparison. I think Logic or Studio One makes a much better companion to Bitwig than Live.

Yes, I agree! I see them more as either/or proposition, hence the poll is designed around Bitwig but going from "not even planning to try Live" all the way up to "I've moved to Live" with just a bit of both in between for people like... us
It's not about "which DAW is the best companion to Bitwig".

I think we are missing an option here:
1. I use live, tried bitwig and went back to live.
P.s. people that went back to live might still be interested in the direction bitwig takes so still look at this forum.

Good point, but adding it now would reset the poll Thanks!

- I was an Ableton Live devotee for many years (since version 4).
- I moved on to Bitwig 3 for MPE after I found that I couldn’t wait for that feature’s arrival in Live 10 any longer.
- I recently purchased a Live 11 license due to the MPE integration there.
- I quickly realized that I miss Bitwig’s more flexible and deep modulation system.
- I then came running right back to Bitwig.
Anyone want a Live license?

Heh, that's an awesome story & one that I totally understand (although I'm not selling any of my DAWs anymore)bitwigger9 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 7:19 pm - I was an Ableton Live devotee for many years (since version 4).

I was very excited about MPE arriving in live 11, but they have messed it up a bit. So for me I probably will not upgrade and will let the discount go. I have 2 weeks to decide, let’s see...
Still interested in renewing BW at some point, the large graphics cpu and GPU hit on my machine is the main reason I stopped using it, along with missing the “simplified” midi routing and audio routing in Live.
Very interested in what v4 has to offer...

How do you Bitwig without obsessing about Live?
Surely there's at least a few people who manage it

That's what the poll is for. At least 60% of respondents is like that

Cause every DAW has strengths and weaknesses and in any one of them I could fulfill my musical interests.
I have Logic as a backup when I want to do something that simply cannot be done in Bitwig.
Meanwhile, it is a beautiful day where I am and have been outside planting and prepping beds for planting. Today I planted Himalayan Blue Poppies, a gorgeous purple variety of poppy, and Sugar Snap Peas... both green and purple varieties.
