I loved this game :D
Are these sounds extracted from original tracker files from the game or remade? I have no idea how games were packed then, on Amiga.

Post

Also a HUGE fan of the games.
The original samples were done by Chris Huelsbeck for the Amiga. The soundtrack of the game was a module (.MOD / .NST or similar - don't remember exacly). It is possible to rip the 8-bit samples directly from the modules. Although I am not sure about the legal situation here. I remember that Chris sold a CD with the samples (which also seem to be ripped from those days synths) in the past.

It was TFMX song. Sampled from synths etc. to Amiga. TFMX could make 8 channel songs also and could use hybrid sounds eg. mixing synthetic generated simple waveforms with sample in realtime (not sure about realtime, I never got really into the TFMX, it was super awful to use if you didnt know what to do).

If you rip the samples from memory like I did, you'll get quite small segments without their looping. Games didnt have much memory to use for sounds back then, imagine you have 512KB for graphics, code and music to output. The original sounds from synths would be nice :)
Soft Knees - Live 12, Diva, Omnisphere, Slate Digital VSX, TDR, Kush Audio, U-He, PA, Valhalla, Fuse, Pulsar, NI, OekSound etc. on Win11Pro R7950X & RME AiO Pro

Turrican was one of my favorite games. I also really liked the Psygnosis games: Barbarian, Blood Money, Lemmings, Shadow of the Beast, and some of the others.

Turrican 2 FTW.

I think i read somewhere that Chris used an Ensoniq SQ80(amongst other things) for the Turrican samples.

Off topic...but I wish they’d release all of those on Steam. :)

I'm a fan too. My favorite is level 1 track in Turican 2. It's TFX. Deli player can play them. I'm playing it right now!!.

Advice is heavy. So don’t send it like a mountain.

So TFMX was actually made by Chris Huelsbeck. I never heard about TFMX. Happily living in ProTracker/DIgiBooster bubble at that time ;)

Post

Yeah. Great era of DigiBooster... Before that i composed a few pieces using Multer app for joining PT modules into one multi-channel module. THIS was a challenge ;)

BTW You can find Chriss' discography on Spotify. I'm not sure there are original Amiga productions, but sounds like this, see Turrican Soundtrack Anthology: Original Sound Version

Amiga!
Kickstart 1.x OS - 300kb rom built in that can still be configured to look and work like any version of OSX and Windows.

The best version of Turrican 2 was the DOS version. It is pretty unknown. It had sprites with 256 colors and 16bit sample playback on soundblaster cards. But it is tricky to make it work. On DOS 6.0 it was nearly impossible to get enough free ram to run the game. It took me some time make it run in DOSbox. But it works fine

Another one of my all time fav's on the Amiga, if it wasn't for the Amiga I would have never got into DAW tinkering.
