Insert into SSL Fusion

I have an SSL Fusion and am new to the hardware game. What are the advantages of using the insert for this equipment rather than just running a bus compressor (or whatever) prior or after the Fusion all together? I can turn off specific parts of the Fusion, so just seems that the insert is only partially (even if that) useful.

On the Fusion, the benefit of the Insert is that it can be before or after the EQ, with the pre/post button. If you put a signal processor which doesn't have it's own bypass switch in the insert, you can then use the Insert button on the Fusion to bypass the effect. All this really does is save some patching time, if you frequently use a pair of effects together (as you might with the Fusion and a bus compressor).
