What is the source of the common (modern) Hip Hop snare?

I hear the same sound in tons of modern hip hop tracks, but I wonder what the source is. I tried googling it, but didn't really have any results (maybe I just used bad keywords).

Sorry for only 2 examples, despite feeling like this snare is quite ubiquitous, I am having trouble actually finding and remembering examples. If I find more examples before someone has given me the answer, then I'll post them here.

Really? Are you sure? I use 808's a lot, and I've never heard the snare have that chirpy click sound.

Nice, I hear it now.
So what are the layers? The bottom layer doesn't sound like an 808 to me, but I could be mistaken. legendCNCD suggested maybe a 606, which I am less familiar with the 606 sound, so is it a 606?
Edit:
unrelated, but "Field Mob Snare" in a google search is definitely turning up a lot more links with other people either wondering about the snare or why it's so over-used. So thanks for putting me on track

Ah may have missed the click with quick listen on low-end creative in-ears but I'd say pitch up the or pitchshift the snare.. maybe.

Go to the Splice and search for Lex Luger samples.

It's known as the chop or young chop snare. There's tons of YouTube quasi documentaries on it.

Not looking to use it in my music, just wanted to know it's origins, that's all
