I played an Alden semi a while ago and it wasn't bad at all; sounded good and played well. The finish was a bit goopy but for the price it was fine.WatchTheGuitar wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 8:43 am Wondered about getting a cheap semi so first thought of an Epiphone Dot. Mate in a band used to have one and it seemed great value. Used to be able to pick them up for around £200, but no-one seems to stock them anymore. Anyone recommend similar, the cheaper end Casinos seem to cost double that?

I bought this cheap LAG nylon acoustic from my buddy as he wasn't using it at all and wasn't
sure why he even bought it. Only used by Dave Murray actually, at parties. Anyway, it sounds
surprisingly good and has some nifty features. Nice metal tuners and camera batteries for the
pickup, which I thought was a great idea. About $500 new I think. A nice beach guitar or something
as I don't tend to want to take expensive guitars to the beach. Still in the market for a nice
classical, but there's no hurry now.

Send it to Freddy Gabrsek, he does ace headstock fixes (as do lots of other luthiers of course).tapper mike wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 1:22 am That was the prize of my collection. Ibanez GB10 (George Benson)

I’ll keep an eye out for them. Can see some on reverb, but the new ones are over £300, approaching Gretsch territory.resynthesis wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 12:50 amI played an Alden semi a while ago and it wasn't bad at all; sounded good and played well. I have a guy who does that sort of work. Known him since the 80's. Problem is I'm tapped. Unemployed, unemployment has run out. It's become one of those maybe someday things.resynthesis wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 4:50 pmSend it to Freddy Gabrsek, he does ace headstock fixes (as do lots of other luthiers of course).tapper mike wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 1:22 am That was the prize of my collection. That would make me cry. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I was over at a friend's place, to use his guitar processor to lay down a lead for something. He leaned his guitar aganst the couch, and of course it went over and did exactly that. As I looked on in horror, he calmly glued it together, and I was doing the next take about ½ hour later.

There's the Squier Affinity Starcaster around £220 - I think it looks great but the purists probably not...

There's also the more traditional looking Hartwood ones (they're a gear4music sub-brand) around the same price;

They are fricking heavy, which is one reason I am interested in the Strandbergs. Nice one thoughMadDogE134 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 8:50 pm my newest addition... born on August 12, 2021 weighing in at 10lb even. Gibson Les Paul Standard "Original Series" 50's model in Tobacco Burst
