I would like to learn to build some interesting percussive/fx type patches. This one has always interested me. I imagine it's mostly down to reverb. But I can't get anything like it. Any advice? Thanks

Maybe I miss the point but I'm not hearing anything special except some low pitched, filtered percussion drenched in reverb.
Anyway, I gave it a quick shot, first one is a bongo, second one (from 0:08) is a 909 rim shot, same midi, same fx's : some low pass filter (ableton auto filter) and reverb (valhalla vintage verb default preset 30% wet). 909 RS sounds shitty in the low notes, but I guess it's a matter of choosing the right sound, and the right notes. I don't feel there's much more to it (except some panning effects in the original song).
