Hi,

Looking to upgrade Ableton stock synths but I haven't explored much softsynths outside of Live really.

Which synths are well suited and lend themselves well to Trap production? Any popular choices on this scene?

Thank you everyone.

Probably the "usual suspects", Serum, Spire, Sylenth1 or Massive.

Some Trap soundsets for Spire can be found here.

Nexus, Sublab

Afaik Omnispehere is the synth of choice for trap producers. Nexus used to be a pretty popular one too, but seems to have been fallen out of vogue. Also Xpand2, ElectraX and Purity are pretty popular. From what I gather the popular ones are usually rompler type of vsti's with big preset libraries.

This. Trap and generally speaking rap/hiphop derivates aren’t heavily based on synths so a rompler makes much more sense most of the times.

Omnisphere and Keyscape where the main Trap Synth together with Nexus 3 or maybe ElectraX for a long time. Nowadays I feel that Serum or Kontakt libraries are used more often, but Omnisphere is still relevant. Trap producers rarely do a lot of Synth programming themselves, so anything with lots of presets is usually welcome. Soundwise bells and keys are still strong in the game together with pads and flutes. Emulationens of old classics like a Prophet 5 and such are used for that for example.

Kontakt and sample libraries are the main source. Omnisphere still used a bit, pigments is used as is v collection. It leans pretty heavily on Kontakt, though.

How about Vital? would it be good option?
I think I’ve seen some trap tutorials for Vital (all those crawl basses etc). That is trap right? Or dup step? I am so bad with genres now :D I know heavy, trance and opera :D
Isn’t that good enough?

Every synth you can take advantage of would be a good option, especially if you want to stand out a little from the crowd, find new interesting sounds, actually I would avoid everything that everyone uses right now, skip all trap/hip hop banks out there and work with other interesting tools there are on the market.

Most people have no personal taste or vision, they are just followers, some folks are trendsetters, they explore and experiment, leave their old sound behind to copycats and reinvent themselves again, most established artist's when looking for beats look for fresh, something out of ordinary, not many will buy (insert name) type beat for their next song, nobody that matters will hire you to copy someone else's sound, they will hire you for your own sound or will hire that other guy for his own sound.

Learning sound design and making your own sounds can give you edge and advantage, than if you get good at mixing and really bring your game up connecting all the dots from composing to mixing, you can make amazing sounding records that will stand out easily, best producers already have their own sound and they just hire mixing engineer to enhance that further, give it little personal twist here and there.

Yeah i feel also, looking at Tutorials and Breakdown, lots of Kontakt Libraries (Session Horns, Embertone Flutes, Ethno World), Omnisphere still used by many, Xpand (no Synth, but "cheap Omnisphere Rompler"), and i think Serum is getting more and more love.

It's a specific style of HipHop / Rap.
Well known for those big sub basses, which now are used widely also in other genres. Trap music made those popular.
