Which Home keyboard model did you use? It sounds like Technics or something but not too sure.

Thank you for the reviews! Now your song: sounds surprisingly good for a 4 track cassette recorder. I used an Aria 4 track cassette recorder from 1984 until 1996; it had no EQ adjustment. The song itself is quite good. Vocals are quite good; perhaps slightly pitchy a few times. No pitch correction in the olden days. Instrumentally, mostly sounds 80's, which is fine by me. Nice keyboard playing/sequencing. Overall, very good, especially considering the gear used.

I think we're probably of a similar age given the dates in your post - them were the days..

Bouncing down to get the extra 3 tracks and worrying that you'd f**k it up, seeing your TDK SA90 chew up your masterpiece..

, buying shitloads of isopropyl alcohol and cotton buds to clean the bastard machine. These bleedin' kids have it easy these days.

Anyways, song was definitely better recorded than the stuff we used to do with our band 4-track (I think we were drinking the isopropyl..) and quite a catchy little number!

Taylor Bros were the original and only emo-synthpop-prog band.

Given the limitations of recording onto a 4 track in one day, the recording is nothing short of amazing. Your musical aptitude is already on full display and your brother is a very good singer. (A minor point but I think the song would be more enjoyable with less repetition of the chorus.)

I do like this song better than most songs from that bigger band with a lot of Taylors (John, Andy, Roger) operating in the same time period. Great job!

The tension getting the damn thing backed up to digital...Just had no idea what state that cassette was in when I found it!

Just found a whole load more as well - i will archive them, but I don't think they're gonna go 'public'!

When I taught music / music tech, we had a module on the history of recording equipment...always entertaining seeing students trying to put together a song on a 4-track tape machine!

Nick's been a school caretaker / site supervisor for a long time now. His interest in active music had really gone by the time he was 30...shame as he was a gifted clarinet player; a technically better pianist than me (I performed this one as he didn't like playing to a click track / drum beat) and, as you say, a decent singer.

Keyboard used... Maaan, it was 1987 and we had it for just one day... Really can't remember. I think it was a Yamaha model, but I may be wrong so many years later! Definitely had a basic built in sequencing / recording function... 4 tracks... Might've been 6?

Vocals a bit pitchy - definitely, especially at the extreme edges of the range, but I'll forgive him... Done in just two takes according to my scribbled notes on the cassette cover!

Maaaan, I'd totally forgotten about the 'cotton buds routine'!

There was an interesting documentary a few years ago putting some modern 'digital age' bands through old 4 track routines...interesting watch!

Well, that's great: 1987!

You can hear that the sound is not as clear and polished as it is today.
But it is also clear that this is actually not that important, because
this song has a beautiful melody and is arranged with a lot of love!
Do you have any more songs from that time? If so: bring it on!
