What’s the best way to get a crowd singing effect with one person?

How to do this, that and the other. Share, learn, teach. How did X do that? How can I sound like Y?

I’m thinking something akin to Perfect Places by Lorde. As much as I’d love to get a bunch of people together, it’s really only me at the moment, and I’m trying to figure out if there’s a way to get that effect.

MUnison by Melda is really good for this sort of stuff. The 'multitracking' presets are a good place to start and mess with the number of voices/formants/delay/pitch variations etc.

Overdubs! Record yourself several times - sing in different octaves, shout one, whisper one, mumble one like you don't know the words, etc. Then layer it up and use effects to make it even bigger.

What BONES said. With a bit of formant shifting to create more distinct voices.
