It’s a sampler - of course it can!

I know what you mean- a lot of so called 'sampler' don't sample live and you have to load the audio in!

But 'YES', the little waveform button to the right of the sample folder loading button starts 'audio' sampling and has an input meter etc.

Better than that it also have a mini sample editor for the ample you just took (see edit button)- you can normalise, xfade, reverse etc before using it in Mimic

Mimic is very powerful, Octotrack style, of the 8 slices can have their own stretch algorithm ,fx, lfo etc - you could make a track with it I think!

I think the built in sample editor may be the one from ReCycle? I wonder if that is built in to this now, need to check if it can save as REX!

Edit- I don't think it can load or save REX- maybe they are still planning to update/sell ReCycle (or just drop REX, seems less important nowadays)

FYI- there were relese notes for 12.1 which is the first non beta/early access release, so this is the one to judge RS on!

No, it just shares some similar features.

As you discovered, that's a no-go. I'm willing to wager that Mimic was built using the RE SDK, and the RE SDK doesn't support REX import (yet) for some strange reason.

Honestly, I haven't really opened ReCycle ever since Reason added REX file creation and basic editing back in version 7 (or maybe it was 8? I can't remember LOL). Mimic just drives that point home for me! I haven't bought REX files in many, many years.

I could be mistaken, but it seems that in Slice mode you can't assign slices to individual outputs. There are the 8 slots that have their own outputs though. Is it possible to drag & drop a slice to a slot?

It's not. It is made for real-time sample stretching for creative purposes and has to remain light. The time-stretch algo in Reason's main sequencer is made for performance/production quality, and is often calculated in the background with a lower quality "preview" until that's finished.

You can drag individual/different samples per slot (quite long ones as well) and take individual outputs (from the back, see my picture above)

I know, but let's say you have a sample of a drum break that hasn't been sliced yet. When you load it into Mimic and create the slices, then it would be nice if you could drag & drop a slice with a bassdrum to slot 1, a slice with a snare to slot 2, etc. Why use ReCycle* or another audio editor first to slice the sample if Mimic can do that too?

I think they're asking whether it's possible to assign slices (in Slice mode) to separate outputs on the back, if there's just few of them (the slices).

Or at least to drag the slices to slots for Multi Slot mode.

Is it a bug or intentional? After ReWire are they discontinuing ReCycle now?
