You mean apulsoft products in general?
I don't think so. A workhorse eq with some unique approaches for 69$ is fair as well as the asked $49 for the shaper. I'm not sure if they do offer sales but they do offer educational discounts.

Back to the topic: I also think the nerd level on the apulsoft products is too high for the endconsumer market and they seem not to care about marketing or advertising. That said I indeed know some folks from professional studios using their products. I had an eye on the shaper quite often but never bought it. As far as I remember the GUI was buggy on my side. I liked the whole concept though. Time to demo it again as there seem to be a couple of updates since my last try.
It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

I think they could make a lot of money if they hired an experienced UX / UI guy and bundled the same functionality into a plugin that is more intuitive to operate and easier to look at.

it doesn't look that different to ableton live's instrument and fx interfaces, which a lot of people don't have a big issue with.

i doubt it would be a whole lot better with fake wood panels, photorealistic cables and 3d knobs.

I find apqualizr much easier to use than UVI Shade
(both are good)

This is one I've demoed probably once every 6 months, and every time I've loved the sound but then for whatever reason I forgot(no doubt money or lack thereof). But thanks to this topic I went ahead and got it. It covers all the bases of distortion/saturation very handily, and sounds really natural to my ears. There are many options to dig in and find your particular sound. For those who find the controls cramped, resizing might help a bit. I for one love the spare look..."just the data ma'am". Here's a good viddie:

I don't play guitar but this is a great quickie demo to show a portion of its powers. Salute!

Same here. Demo it the whole evening and I'm again in love. The resizing issue I had is ironed out. I buy this one and skip the new Audio Damage delay. It's truly an amazing shaper. For $49 a no brainer. Needs more attention.

Edit: the color theme can be edited

Not that the UI is the most important thing but if I have to choose I'll go for one that is intuitive and pleasant to stare at. there is enough variety today that I can pick and choose and still get a quality sounding product. The UI is whyIve never tried any of their gear.

Everyone has a different taste of course. I think it's difficult to put the complexity of this type of plugin into a fancy GUI. I find it's easy to work with once you're familiar with it. As one said before pseudo 3d and wooden panels or brushed metal is not an option here. In fact I think it's perfectly balanced between complexity and ease of use. But I'm an Ableton Live user maybe I'm customer to this kind if GUI.

The richness and perceived loudness of the Transformer preset is eye (and ear) opening

Bought it about year ago immediately after demoing (since it's not so expensive), interesting distortion, and pretty liked UI.

The guitar demo is really great, seems like a plugin capable of many distortion and saturation types. I have Cableguys Driveshaper, which is quite similar in featureset.

It's kinda similar quite different yet. For me Driveshaper is more like a straight effect type of distortion especially since it lacks a proper filter section and I'm not a big fan of the GUI since it focus on the effect part.

On the other hand for me the strength of apShaper lies not only in the wave shaping of high quality but also in the the hq filter as well. This way apShaper is able to deliver a vast range of sounds apart from being a extraordinary wave-shaper.

Mays I suggest putting a link to the first post so it would be easier for people to find it :)

Thanks!

Driveshaper actually has a filter (called "tone" which acts as a state variable filter). It also has "grip" setting to only affect the loud part of the signal, leaving the quieter parts unaffected. Even better: it has multiband mode with three completely independent bands. This is combination with the drawable LFO shapes and the envelope follower, which works both in the positive, as well as the negative domain, there is really a huge range of sounds that can be greated with it.

I actually don't understand your statement about Driveshaper's GUI being to focussed on the effect part. Obviously you would want the UI to offer parameters to influence the effect, right? It's not a filter effect, there is the Filtershaper module for that, which can handily be combined with Driveshaper and many more available modules.
