What Bitwig tutorials do you need/want?

Hi Bitwiggers!

I'm developing a series of Bitwig tutorial videos. I want to cover everything from beginner to advanced. I'm certainly not the most experienced Bitwig guy (there are some real geniuses in our community!) but I do know how to teach, and I have made it a priority to create these lessons.

What do you want to learn? No request is too simple.

For example, I started about as simple as it gets with a "tap tempo in Bitwig" tutorial. Funnily enough there is no mention of how to do tap tempo in the manual (although the UI does have the tooltip when you know where to look). Here it is: https://youtu.be/DQuM-eOZtkE

I'd love any constructive feedback on how to improve these videos, and on what content would help you in the future.

Probably not the answer you're looking for, but my biggest gripe with most YT tutorials is lack of structure, i.e. they're focused on single particular topic, rather than on providing a continuous journey through the features. For Bitwig specifically, there's no one series - or one long video - that explains Bitwig to a beginner, from 1st launch to "finishing" a track, with all the intermediate steps involved: sound design, recording MIDI and audio, editing them, building the arrangement, doing some automation/modulation, mixing...

As someone creating the content, but also learning and consuming content from others, that's an interesting challenge to think about. I think the answer is "both" - that is, we need short tutorials to answer very specific questions, but also a feature length tutorial that walks through a longer process.

It's frustrating to have to sit through 15 minute videos when only 17 seconds are required to answer the question!

But it's also enjoyable to go on an adventure. My younger brother does painting videos for miniatures, and his videos are routinely 2+ hours long. His audience absolutely loves it! Shameless plug because he's my little bro https://www.youtube.com/c/Mezgike

So thanks for your feedback. Personally, I like finding short videos that very quickly answer the "how-to" questions I have as a learner. But as a creator I'm also really excited about creating feature length journeys that take us from beginning to end.

Yeah, I get that but the viewer has to know that a feature they're looking for even exists and know how it's called to type it in search

The ideal would be a series of short, 5-minute 20-30 videos going quickly through basics of Bitwig's workflow and paradigm, with links to longer (or a series of short) videos elaborating on particular topics.

The video I'm working on at the moment (well, I have 10 in progress, but the one I aim to publish next) is "Your first song in Bitwig" (title to be finalised). It will be a very high level look at creating a song, but hopefully give a few hooks to go deeper in subsequent videos.

The tap tempo video was great. It's nice that you said the the most relevant thing at the beginning. If I ever need to remember in the middle of producing how it was, I can go and watch the beginning of the video... so it doesn't have to be short video but it's nice it goes to the point quickly and there's no intro and no extra talk in the beginning about any like and subscribe... Would be a nice idea to find many different ways to do some particular thing you teach, that way everyone would find some inspiration about some simple things they do different way... so just make those videos as long as you find things to say.

Also it was nice that you mention some page of the manual.. what a great idea to mention in a video! Would be nice to see also the page number and all the shortcuts written at the same time you mention those. One more thing I was thinking... the bitwig work area would be better to see zoomed with.. how you call that kind of zoom that makes the inspector, all the knobs and the device panel extra large... No one never use that kind of zoom in bitwig tutorial videos, but it would be easy to see everything from the phone screen.

I watched a 6:53 video last week that took almost 5 minutes to get to the 17 second bit showing how it was done. They're a bit frustrating!

Good idea on the zooming. I hadn't considered mobile devices (duh!) so I will do that in the future.

Ok. Maybe I didn't realize they use zoom because my normal view is so similar. It would be possible to show something with lot more zoom and change the zoom level occasionally.

I'm interested in a good mixing workflow. All of Bitwig's tutorial seem to focus on sound design and production where as all mixing tutorials/classes use other DAWs.
