Is the issue fixed ?
Dexed should adjust it's carrier output gain according to the chosen algoritm .
An algoritm with 6 carriers will have less output gain per operator compared to an algoritm with just 5, 4, 3 etcc carriers .
Lesser carriers = louder output gain of that carrier .
Plogue did it right with the ops7

Just compared Dexed to OPS7, don't have a DX7 anymore, but trust Plogue totally about accuracy, they seem to be quite crazy, in a very good way
Dexed fares well, IMO, maybe a little, tiny little bit less warm, but one thing stood out: Dexed makes quite pronounced clicks on some sounds on the attacks, but only in the 'Mark-I' & 'OPS' modes. This makes it sound really wrong. In '24-bit float' it sounds really close. I'm using Dexed 0.9.6, maybe this can be fixed in a way?
Short demonstration:
1 - Dexed Mark I Engine
2 - Dexed 24bit Float Engine
3 - OPS7

So far, Plogue's OPS7 is killing it when it comes to accuracy with the hardware (I own a DX5, TX7 and DX7) and is a much nicer interface than DEXED which I still think is a really good app. It's just a shame that it appears to have stalled in development.
Add to the fact that OPS7 allows for layering and splits, just like the DX1/DX5 and has some very usable FX built in, it has rapidly become my software alternative of choice. It also has a much nicer and more user friendly UI.
I spoke to the devs at Plogue and asked if they had ever considered fully recreating the Performance mode of the DX1/DX5. They said that they had tried in early betas but removed it due to the fact they didn't have an actual DX1/DX5 to accurately model. However, they told me last week that they had since tracked down a DX5 that was local to them, so who knows?
If they do that, I'll be delighted. Now all we need is someone to accurately model the Mk.II DX7/TX802 and maybe the DX11/TX81Z

The Mark-I & OPS modes are somewhat experimental AFAIK and they don't sound that good IMHO. Just stick to the 24-bit float version, it sounds great.
I hope asb2m10 only adds the portamento, the last note priority mode, the internal synth engine mute mode (for purely librarian purposes) fixes re-scaling as well as maybe the aforementioned gain structure and leaves it at that. No need to add more than that, I prefer rock-solid stability to new features.
Dexed is excellent as it is and only needs a few extra strokes to become perfect. The GUI isn't ideal, but it is what it is.

My thoughts entirely.

Yeah, unfortunately there's little to be done about this. I doubt we're gonna get a comprehensive update like that, so we have to make do with DX7 mkI. You have to get OPS7 in order to get closer to mkII.

Oh Really? I have been looking at OPS7 specs but nothing about Mark one or 2 compatibility.

Well, you can layer two patches and detune them and it can function as a librarian as well AFAIK, so there is that. I haven't gotten OPS7 yet, so I'm not that well informed in the matter, but do check it out, it just might suit your needs, who knows.

OPS7 doesn't emulate the Mk.II in any way. It doesn't model the 16bit DACs, Fractional Scaling, Unison Poly mode and other DX7 Mk.II features.
Yes, it allows splits and layering but this is more in line with the DX1/DX5

Thanks, makes sense, I forgot about the Unison Poly mode in mkII among other things.Failed Muso wrote: Thu Oct 07, 2021 11:05 am OPS7 doesn't emulate the Mk.II in any way. It doesn't model the 16bit DACs, Fractional Scaling, Unison Poly mode and other DX7 Mk.II features.

The 24 bit float in dexed has all the multiple feedback operator algoritms wrongcrickey13 wrote: Thu Oct 07, 2021 10:15 am The Mark-I & OPS modes are somewhat experimental AFAIK and they don't sound that good IMHO. Just stick to the 24-bit float version, it sounds great.

Algoritm 6 which features two operators in a feedback loop is wrong , it sounds the same as algo 5 with one operator feedback loop
Algo 4 which has 3 operator feedback loop sounds the same as algo 3 whcih has one operator feedback loop.
I reported this years ago on the dexed github page, never has been fixed
That's why I always used mk1 version , untill recently ...when plogue released ops

That's bad. I wish the developer would fix this. Would be nice if Surge Synth Team fixed all these niggles, but they're busy with other things.gentleclockdivider wrote: Thu Oct 07, 2021 11:26 am The 24 bit float in dexed has all the multiple feedback operator algoritms wrong

I don't like Dexed's mkI version, sounds kinda harsh to me.
