Hello there,
Im looking for a filter plugin with which I can get creative for like fx and to make sounds more unique etc.

I came across FabFilter Vulcano and UVI Shade and I wonder which one is better. Are they even comparable?

However I didnt like WoW2 which I had some month ago.

Please let me know or thoughts about this.

Cheers!

Have you tried ‘The Drop’ from Cytomic?

Imo The Drop and UVI Shade are really very different. The Drop has the excellent filter shapes, but the UVI filters are really cool, too and it offers so much more in terms of creative application and modulation. Personally glad I have both and it's really all I could need in that department.

The drop is nice. Reaktor is an amazing processor for lots of bizarre filtering. Melda also has Plenty of fun filters that work well with their crazy mod system (Mwobble and many others).

For creative uses I would choose UVI's Shade. Simon over at patchpool.net has an excellent preset pack that showcases the exquisite details possible with this plugin: Sonic Shades by Patchpool https://www.patchpool.net/shade_fx.html

You should check out his YouTube videos to hear the unique processing in a musical context. I love plugins that can animate my audio and Shade works really well for both sound design applications and musical performance. Here's some examples from the Rhythmical Presets folder in Sonic Shades - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ogk4tzEea1Q

Until there's Volcano3 I'd go with Shade.

Volcano 3 isn't out yet so you should be able to demo it when it comes out

dude, only you can answer that for yourself. No one here knows what kind of music you create or what your needs are.

Unless it's a great deal then I think that there are better options out there for filtering than FF or UVI. If you are good with automation or have a flexible host like Bitwig, then you can do amazing stuff with almost any filter, even simple freeware. There are also options like cableguys filtershaper or Xfer LFO tool. Even the waves metafilter is pretty fun and cheap as dirt on sale.

If you need an awesome synth and crazy filters then you could pick up a second hand Zebra 2 license which comes with Zebrify, the effect version with all the filters and FX of full zebra.

I'd recommend doing a giant demo weekend of all the big names of filters before you lock onto a single one or two.

I just got The Orb which is a vowel formant filter as a freebie from Plugin Boutique, think it's on sale separately for $29 elsewhere but I got it on top of the Pulsar Echorec plugin (which is neat, by the way, I love cool delays). Two things I like already: 1. fun internal LFOs for its functions, and 2. awesome with an X-Y pad. Its filtering is pretty powerful and I have already used it to bring out a certain character in the attack of a bass track I've been working on today.

Volcano 3 (not Vulcano) is out tomorrow, so demo it, then buy it. In fact, buy a license for everybody posting in this thread since we're making your decisions for you.
