Is Waveform 11.5.18 Stable Now?

I haven't used Waveform 11 for some months and noticed the thread about V 11.5.18 causing lots of quick crashes
viewtopic.php?f=22&t=568425
I am going to be updating from my old version of 11 but will be using this on a computer without internet connection. Like everyone I would like to install a version that is as stable as possible.
What would you recommend? ( Assuming I have a choice of what version to install - 11.5.17 seemed pretty stable judging by some comments I have read.)
Thanks for your advice

There hasn't been any real update for a long time, but then again we haven't seen much from the Tracktion team since August.
I've deliberately stayed with 11.5.17 for that reason--if .18 caused problems, and that's the same file that's still up on the downloads page, then I'm staying with .17. You can still get that from the site: go to Download Archive.
There do seem to be two different 11.5.18 versions there, but the release notes are identical for each (not helpful).
I believe I'll be on .17 until a .19 comes out or any 11.6 or better replaces it. So far mine's been super-reliable.

I'm of the same opinion as watchful,
I tried the 11.5.18 beta, which just crashed waveform on my system, so went back to 11.5.17 everything worked perfectly. Then tried the official release of 11.5.18 thinking / hoping that what ever caused my problems were fixed, but sadly I just got the same results.
Unfortunately If this problem persists through the the next updates and into waveform 12. Then my Journey with waveform will end at 11.5.17 which is a shame as I been with them since I got Tracktion 1 free with a guitar magazine.

There's nothing to justify the switch to 11.5.18 so I'm fine with 11.5.17. I'm sure whatever is causing the 18 instability will be fixed, it's just been a while without any update. Curious what the devs are up to...
I find 11.5.17 to be exceptionally stable. I've only had a couple notable crashes, which does reset some routings (annoying). But I think if I sandbox the offending plugin even that would disappear.

Thanks for your quick and helpful responses. I'll go with 11.5.17 if I can get it through the Archive. It seems disconcerting that this instability hasn't been addressed. I used Tracktion for many years then had a long break from doing music then came back to Waveform this year. I like it and don't want to leave it so hope it is fixed.

21tones--when you log into your Tracktion account, go to My Downloads (either from your log in or from the top menu).
Then, go to Individual Installers.
Click on Waveform 11.
Look for the word BETA (in capital letters, toward the right side of the page). Click either on BETA or Archives.
The option for v11.5.17 will be pretty much right in front of you for easy download.

Yes .18 is crashing a lot, I switched DAWs until it is fixed. From time it takes to be fixed I think authors works on next major release.

Hi guys
I am using 11.5.8 and not experiencing any crashing unless I open and close like 8-10 projects simultaneously and use up all of its RAM.
My laptop is MBP 13" M1 16GB bought in August 2021 and I use Waveform natively after running it for a few months under Rosetta 2. Since changing all VST's and AU's (and Waveform) to run M1 native its been great!
The only time Waveform used to slow and crash is when I had a MacBook Air 2015 1.6 GHz ting. It was a big investment but since upgrading the laptop I can get stuff created without having to think or worry about crashing. I know quite a lot of people who suffer with laptop/pc/mac crashing but their hard drive may have too much stuff on it. An alternative that people are now switching to is the M1 chip in an iPad Pro to create beats.
I bought an iPad Mini that came with Garageband so I might give it a go. There are crazy beats coming out of Beat Maker 3 on the iPad alone, and these modern devices aren't crashing from the videos I'm watching online.

I think the consensus is to revert to .17 if you have problems with .18 - or if starting new, use .17.
Platform? OS? audio device? ASIO4all works well for most under Windows from a LATENCY perspective and is solid.
Watch also other processes that may be running on the computer. I find that powering up Windows, it's normally better to just let it sit for 10 minutes or so to let some of the system and antivirus activities finish. If your disk is thrashing already doing a virus scan, everything else suffers, particularly real-time processing needed for a DAW. Your internet browser, if open, could also be eating much of your memory/processing (Firefox and Chrome love to consume available memory), so shut them down if feasible. YouTube also doesn't play well with sharing audio with a DAW.

Yesterday I've had major crashes when I tried to render a track to midifile. Waveform hanged and after a restart my whole edit was gone, nowhere to be found in the Projects-tab! I've found the edit on my harddrive, but Waveform wouldn't open it. So the crash has corrupted the edit-file? I really enjoy the inspiring workflow of Waveform, but this was unfortunately a crash too many.

Same for me on Arch Linux. I was stupid enough to buy it after a few hours because the workflow seems awesome. But after trying a bigger project, it would crash every ten minutes and after it did this a few time, the project file got corrupted and it crashed whenever I tried to select a VST.
It even manages to freeze the whole system occasionally, so I have to do a hard reset which no other software I have manages to do.
I tried then downgrading to 11.5.17, but that didn't make a difference even on a fresh project. Then I switched from VST3 to VST2, but the issues persist. Bitwig never crashes on me because the sandbox actually works, and REAPER sometimes dies when I do crazy stuff with some VST, but that can be easily avoided.
Waveform crashes are seemingly random and unavoidable. Does Tracktion do refunds?

I would test Mac or Windows then see how you get on. We know it will open and run on Linux, but the same problem seems to exist with vst's that are created as vst then converted to au - or an au instrument that is converted to vst for other platforms.Held wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 2:45 am Same for me on Arch Linux. It looks like a programming or rendering issue, so I think changing your hardware and operating system will help.
