Yeah, it's so strange that there isn't a sampler that can do what you ask.
I also think Kick 2 is probably the best raw sample player for tweaking because of the very tweakable volume and pitch envelopes. But it's not ideal. What you really want is something like Battery, but with MUCH better envelopes.
Actually, now i think about it, Halion has a volume curve in the sample edit which will reflect in the waveform, but its not an ADSR type envelope, just a pure one shot volume curve.
Maybe also take a look at Melda plugins, maybe they have a sample playback plugin by now. They always had great envelopes.
But i would love to see the people behind Kick 2 make a multitimbral sampler because the audio quality and internal resolution of Kick 2 is top notch, it just lacks things you'd expect from a sampler like modulation etc.
Did you find any other cool alternatives in the meantime?
