Here's an example of what you can do with just the Digitone and headphones.

Some others to consider

OP-Z. It can do sampling, with a built-in mic or you can use a 3.5mm headset (mic & headphones). It's very small with lots of options. Although not necessary, you can visually see everything if you have a phone (google or apple), iPad or if you're laptop is a Mac (no PC app the last I saw). Again... You don't have to use the onscreen features for anything. It's both limited and extremely deep.

1010music Blackbox. I don't think this fits what you're looking for but it's worth checking out. It's not expressive, but lots of tweakability.

Novation Circuit Tracks is another one worth a look at.

I'm not interested in an Orba. I think the ceiling gets hit too quickly. That's just my take watching videos demos of it.

This is a pretty exciting time for small devices, groove boxes, and sound-making fun.

Thanks so much for all replies so far. Hopefully this can turn out to be an informative and inspirational thread. :tu:

Also interesting to see how little interest there is in the Orba. elxsound nails it, I guess, that there is only so much you can do with it. I like to think of it as a budget Roli or Linnstrument, but of course, it needs to be somewhat useful as well, and certainly it cannot be useful to their degree.

One thing that would be doable with the Orba is percussive instruments, such as finger drumming or even shaking (to be sent as MIDI to a drum VSTi). That alone would put some spice into the tracks. Also it should be possible to use it instead of knobs or sliders for modulation of a prerecorded MIDI track. So, atm I'm thinking the Orba plus this harmonica: https://www.thomann.de/gb/hohner_unsere ... e_32_g.htm

Using a multitude of fx (including Mmorph and the Eventide harmonizers), a harmonica should be able to produce some cool sounds also for (mainly) electronic music.

Well, having read some negative reviews about the Orba and fewer positive, I am rethinking. Maybe it's mostly a toy after all.

A harmonica would be nice though! ;)

If you're going to be in isolation for only a week, a simple wind instrument like a harmonica or recorder or shakuhachi flute, etc through effects would be different than you are used to, and thus rewarding.

Very true! I'll just need to buy a portable mic then, perhaps a Zoom mic, to also be able to catch exotic/city sounds and record one-on-one meetings that I will attend after isolation.

Even the dog can make music with it (Orba). Isn't that wonderful.

Thanks! Though a bit pricey for this escapade, the organelle seems... original - and even more so their promo video!

Did they actually release that? They say you can order it, but I signed up to be notified about
it's availability quite some time ago. long before the cosmos, which is already available,
though I changed my mind and flaked on the pre-order...

The site reads strangely (IMO). It seems you can order but have to contact them directly in order to purchase because it’s handled strictly through their Russian operations. So I’m guessing it’s still in a preorder phase but obviously they’ve got out a core group for all the social media buzz business.

Are there maybe regulations that prevent them from releasing it any differently? There’s some strange info that I don’t see about other touch capacitive enabled instruments
