Here is a screen video , but without sound. I have shift-clicked the recordbutton. Then I started the scene of the matrix with a click on the matrix play button. After stopping it and choosing insert there are no new tracks in the project window (which I expected).
Another thing, which is confusing me , is that , when I press Play with no tracks in the project window , the playback of the matrix seems to start. But no cursor indicates it in the matrix window.

1) Please use the correct terms to avoid confusion: A track is not the same as a part.

2) After recording the Live Matrix the recorded parts are inserted in the Time Line.
You have chosen to hide the Time Line hence you don't see the result.

Ah, thanks. Sorry, I didn't know that there was an option to hide the time line. Another question: the function of the fast backward jump button has changed from M8 to M9. In M8 it was jumping to the start, now it is jumping one bar backwards. How can I jump to the start, which is (for me at least) the most wanted option? Can I change the behavior of the button?

It doesn't hide from itself so you must have clicked it.

Shift+click that button.
You can also assign a shortcut to "Goto Start".

What is the intention to change the behavior of the fast backward button to jumping back one bar? For me at least I need it very seldom. In contrast to it I use jumping back to the start all the time. Now it's a bit fiddly in comparison to M8.

Is it possible to get MuLab to preview MIDI clips with a drum device? This is what I have tried after a couple of minutes. Am I on the right track or not?

I even took the radical step of selecting the very VST for which these MIDI files were designed, namely Sample Science's Pine Forest Drums. The browser goes through the motions of playing the cops but no sound comes out 🙁

UPDATE: No worries! I didn't have a kit loaded in the VST. This is a brilliant feature 😍

I've now managed to use this technique for playing MIDI drum files with MuDrums, but when I come to try XLN Audio's Addictive Drums, I'm finding that it's not responding to either MIDI file input or MIDI keyboard input. If I try MIDI keyboard input with Bitwig I hear the drums. Why not with MuLab?

UPDATE: I did manage to get Addictive Drums to work. However, it seems that this only works well if the drum device you want is the only one present in the Preview Monitor. If you have have other devices, even if they are disabled. they seem to eat the MIDI and not pass it through.

Please excuse me monopolising this thread 😉

1) About previewing MIDI files: MuLab will preview them thru the currently focused module, that is the one of the selected track, or the rack you have selected. If you have selected the Preview Monitor rack then it will be previewed thru that Preview Monitor rack but you have the option the select another rack / module for previewing MIDI files.

2) When you insert 2 synths / drum modules inside the same rack then chance is high you won't hear the first one because the 2nd one is blocking the audio of the first one. Hope you see what i mean.

where is the "theme" file located?
I want to load my mux8 colors to Mulab9, possible?

Post

It's the User/Settings/LooksSetup.xml file.

Mulab plugin in Bitwig Studio on Windows10:

1. Regularly getting a bitwig error message "Plug-in host is not responding" - This has no impact on use - if I ignore it it goes away.
Conditions when it occurs have been: when recording midi to mulab track in bitwig Live matrix, when working in project modular area, displaying drop-down menus, when focus is on project browser.

2. In the Change log it says the option to open as 'extra project' has been removed. It seems it is still there - when selected it goes through the loading process then gives information 'there are x number of open projects now'. The open project remains same as before, but later had a mulab plugin crash. I agree that the option makes no sense in the context of mulab plugin.

I am not really accustomed to using the mux plugin for creating and editing patches within another DAW as I have always found mulab to be a much friendlier environment for this purpose, so my usual method is creating my mux patches in mulab, and then simply opening them in mux if I have to use another DAW. I find mulab plugin is still working great in this context and pretty much as before. However, for the purposes of testing I am trying out as much as I can think of with the mulab plugin in other hosts.
One thing I have not really got my head around yet is the whole concept of a 'DAW within a DAW' except perhaps for chaining instruments and fx (which mux could already do) So maybe that is what I need to look at next. If anyone can suggest a 'use case' I would be grateful.
Okay call me dumb :) The concept was just too big for my tiny brain.
Multiple host and chainer, mega multiple modular sequence player. Probably just to start with! Its a whole new level!

I found this recent BWS topic: viewtopic.php?f=259&t=574358
So could it be a BWS issue?
Did you try other VST plugs too?

Indeed a mistake: The "Extra" option has been removed in case of New Project but still happens in case of Open Project. Will be fixed in the next M9.0.20. Thanks for reporting this!

Draftly:
  • You can make little grooves / ideas / clips / mini compositions in MuLab App and use them in DAW X.
  • You can make a complete composition in MuLab App and cooperate with someone else who is used to DAW X.
  • You can plug MuLab into a specialized video editor app and use both parallel.
  • You can look at M9 just like MUX 8 Plugin, but instead of being a synth or effect it can now also be a composer, or anything hybrid between synth - effect - composer.
Besides the above i expect that in the future there will come many more advantages of the composer being modular and MuLab App & Plugin essentially being the same thing.

Spot-on!
I had only experienced this while trying mulab plugin, but now I know what to look for I am getting it with other plugins too, usually when using settings menus and load/save operations. So definitely a recent bws issue :tu:

New issue: in mulab plugin Project 'save as template' option does nothing at all.
