Tracking Apple Silicon Native Hosts, Plugins, Effects

Most likely gonna see a alot VST3 only releases for Apple silicon, I've noticed a few plugins have dropped VST2 releases for Apple Silicon builds as Steinberg are no longer providing an SDK for them.

No, it's a bug. It's supposed to be included. It's going to be fixed in 6.7.1.

There were both VST and VST3 of Kontakt 6.7.0 installed when I did yesterday. I did not however see an Audio Unit. I was asking whether there is an undocumented way to choose what to install or otherwise I go in manually and delete what I don't want after the fact. The vendor inconsistency runs across their entire product line, from what I've seen, and clearly they don't care or nobody has complained (except me here ).

All three plugins installed (AU/VST2/VST3) are 6.7.0. Not sure what you are taking about. Lots of devs do not give you the choice of which versions to install. It’s just disk space.

There was an audio unit installed. My bad. And I'm not sure what you're talking about mentioning 6.7.1 above. Perhaps I missed something. No worries.

I am VERY aware that lots of devs do not give a choice. I could name them if you'd like. I'm perhaps a bit anal about what gets installed and uninstalled on my systems. That's my right. It's my system not theirs. I like developers who give a choice so I don't have to clean up their mess. Reason was the absolute worst, like even worse than IK ... or Acustica who for all their faults actually does give a choice down to the specific directory where you install their plugins.

Not completely, Native Access and a bunch of their daemons and processes that always run in Activity Monitor are still Intel-based.

kontakt is probobly 50%+ of all their codebase. so, it is not so bad. it works good now, as far as i see.

Looks like the iLok Licence Manager will be updated out of Beta very soon based on this excerpt from an email received from Liquidsonics:

If you have been using any of the previous beta releases, please update to the latest beta builds before installing the upcoming v5.5.0 iLok License Manager software that Pace will release in the coming days or weeks to avoid a recently discovered compatibility issue.

Hopefully this will mean the other developers relying on iLok Fusion will follow suit and release updates of their Plugins too.

I saw mention that an installer for native Thorn could be gotten from the programmer somehow, despite PA not releasing native versions. Does anyone know whether Brainworx has or is likely to have M1 versions soon?

March 2022. They made a big announcement. It was posted a page or two back in this thread. The bulk of the PA line or Brainwor will see Apple Silicon builds next month except for Crispy Tuner, Oberhausen, and maybe a few more odds and ends.

What would you say, is it now a good time to start using VST3 instead of VST2? I always used vst2 because of the old projects but now might be a good time to switch. Should I bother?

if there is no problem with your VST2, then keep using them.
I personally installed only VST3 when i bought my new M1 machine, but the VST2 and 3 are not always interchangeable in Cubase, and my projects wouldn't load, so then had to reinstall all my VST2 also. I'm not sure if they are interchangeable at all in Live? Also I've found many VST3 versions are not as stable as the 2. AND MIDI based plugins never have a VST3 version, thanks to Shteamberg basically.
There's another thread with shedloads of info in it, i'm sure Teilo would prefer we take discussions like this elsewhere. I'll try to find the thread...
