I previously linked my song i made here hope4ever - Do it, the two mixes below are of the same song just different.
These are possible entrants into the competition but really are still wip.

I need some feedback to let me know which mix to continue with if that is allowed to ask here? I will of course add new sounds to either mix that i continue with

this mix has all the sounds in even the avg ones, so it is interesting but does not focus on the best sounds...
https://soundcloud.com/awen22/hope4ever ... mix-24-1st

this mix has far fewer different sounds as it focussed on the best sounds so is more spaced out and boring...
https://soundcloud.com/awen22/hope4ever ... mix-24-2nd

Feedback would be appreciated here if that is also allowed? I really do not know how to sequence songs in the best way, I have only created two full length songs before all the rest of my songs are half finished if that lol.
My songs do not conform well to standard number of beats and parts etc and some clips seem in wrong place but idk if that sounds better.

For both linked songs (both are from same project file)...
DAW = FL Studio 20 Producer Edition v20.8.4 {build 2576] - All Plugins Edition Windows 64bit.
O/S = Windows 7 Pro
Instances of Surrealistic MG-1 Plus by Cherry Audio = 5(used) + 1(unused)
KICK = Kick 2
BASS = Extreme Res Bass
PAD = Big Sweep
LEAD1 = Brassy 5th
SNARE = Micro Snare
LEAD2 = Brassy 5th (Turned off, unused)

Fruity parametric EQ - (2 instances)
Fruity parametric EQ 2 - (4 instances)
Fruity Compressor - (3 instances)
Fruity Multiband Compressor - (1 instances)
Fruity Limiter - (5 instances)
Fruity delay 2 - (1 instances)
Fruity Delay - (1 instances)

Note: Monitored on my cheap sony headphones, I do not have speakers to play my music out of. I know from researching that this can effect the sound and it may not play well through reference speakers as it was made with headphones. Would love to know if this made a difference.

EDIT: (I am NOT entering these two linked songs in this post into One Synth Challenge #158, because I do not want my song released under the CC License terms.)

Daw - Ableton 11
13 Tracks of Cherry MG - 1
Used Abletons Glue Compressor, Multi-band and EQ a few times on various tracks.
Used Valhalla Supermassive for all delay and reverb effects and that’s it, enjoy!

Here is my entry I hope you like it. It has been a fun challenge and I hope I have managed to stay within the rules but let me know if you notice anything that isn't so I can try and fix it.

I have made a small update to replace the auto filter with another EQ Three

The track is called One Synth
https://soundcloud.com/user-783020495/o ... al_sharing
I am using 15 instances of the MG-1 Plus
Made on using Abelton Live Intro on Windows 10,
The effects I am using are:
4 Compressor, 8 Reverb, 8 Utility, 2 Valhalla Supermassive, 3 Saturator ( A Bit Warmer Preset), 4 Channel EQ,2 EQ Three

I have set it to the Creative Commons licence as I think that is what we have to do but if we can use a commercial licence that would be preferred.

I kind of preferred the second but hard to say.

hey many thanks for taking the time to listen and respond!
I have noted your response, i'm sure it will help me with direction.
It would be easier to continue the 2nd song and make it more full length because i have not used all the sound clips up, whereas the 1st song nesarly used them all up, though i still have some i didn't put in yet.
I guess you kinda liking the 2nd song shows that less is more or at least level with more.
It would be more fun and easier to continue editing the 2nd song and hopefully enter that, especially if it is not worse of the two.

Wondering whether I should add tags to my songs in soundcloud?
I found a website googling that lists the popular tags, should I add some of those? or ust stick to genre type tags.
Apologies if this is off topic, I am new to soundcloud.

It's really up to you. Most people give a genre (or even a Custom genre!). I usually tag with the synth name, KVROSC, and "One Synth Challenge" ...

Some genres attract the Soundcloud BOTS more than others ...

I do not know the best way to place clips for each track down in the sequencer so that the best combination of noises are placed together horizontally?

For my song above (1st) I made no effort in placing the LEAD1 clips down i just placed them down in a line sequentially (actually mostly in order I created/modified them so at least they have some continuation between clips) and kept them in whether they sounded good with the rest of the song or not.

How do you all do this?

I can imagine manually cutting and pasting in a new clip until you get one that sounds good with the rest of te song a laborious and time consuming task.

I attempted to do all combinations of unique sound clips together in a massive block at the end of my song but I think I left each noise at only 4 beats too small to tell what sounds good due to bleeding in of the next to it clips and short time the clip is played. In the end even making this massive block I couldnt really tell what goes well, so I didnt take anything away from that experiment, I have had better luck doing this in the past.

Thankfully I learned how to export only the selected region to mp3/wav in FL Studio 20, by holding down Ctrl and pressin down and holding the left mouse button down in the time barat the top and dragging right till what I needed was selected and the bar turned red. That has and will save a lot of time. Then you just goto File - Export - Mp3 File. Then choose filename and the popup window defaults to Mode: Song selection, you click start and your done.

Most people create a MIDI track which is used exclusively for each instrument. So, e.g. you would create a bass track for the whole song, and then design your bass instrument to give the right feel for the song in mind. Then you might create another track for a pad, and then design that ... etc etc... some MIDI will be patterns or arps etc. A lot will be played "live" (and recorded)- e.g. solos.

What you must NOT do in this challenge is create a small audio clip and then cut and paste that audio clip. The only time you can freeze (or create a stem) is to do that for a complete track (ie the whole length of your track) . Usually done to save CPU cycles.

The rule that says you cannot cut and paste audio is to prevent things like creating a kick clip and then pasting that many time to create a consistent kick track. Many synths are programmed such that creating a consistent kick is hard or even impossible. Once you cut and paste a audio clip of a kick removes that "feature" of the synth.

this sort of workflow question depends so much on which daw you use that it might be better to ask in a forum dedicated to that. i think a handful of people here use fl studio but most of us do not.

in general, i like to use a sequencer to render midi to the timeline and then edit from there. not sure if that makes sense in an fl studio context?
a laborious and time consuming task.
yep, that's music production! :D

Thanks for your input especially on workflow.
All of my song is created only with midi clips that play out of the synth in this challenge.

I believe that is what I do too.
Thanks for showing me the right direction to go in to answer my workflow questions, I rarely post in their forums unless I have a music breaking problem.
I own a few different daws, I started on MuLab, I also own ableton live and like it a lot its very simple. I even bought cubase etc but I am yet to seriously try it out, I hate the colourscheme lol
