Moonchild - King Crimson

I got the idea to do a cover, something I rarely do but being a fan of King Crimson, and particularly this tune, I decided to give it a go.

Fantastic. The instrumentation, arrangement, and recording is terrific. The vocal performance is wonderful - I particularly liked the harmonies.

This sounds really great. I like it a lot - although it is not my genre

I don't know the original, whole thing reminds me of a James Bond theme.

Beautifully slow, melancholically flowing. The singing has a

You're cheekily posting a cover version of ... in public
(public forum). I think that's good - but also really courageous.

Hence my question: Have you obtained permission
to publish from the copyright holders? What agreement
did you make there? Or do you just post the cover version
like this - at a venture?

If properly credited and not for sale then I think it's fair game. The mechanical right of an artist for recompense can't really apply without any money involved. Think about all the covers on Youtube that aren't monetised, not a big deal really.

Of course, there is a procedure when you want to sell or otherwise profit from other people's work.

This is indeed one of the rare cases where documents were filed and rights were obtained for a cover (in this forum).

Perhaps the only cover in this thread, full of covers, where that was done, and there is a reason for it.

This was originally produced for release on a CD so we did it correctly.

Also, the band includes some very fine musicians including a Grammy winner and a Juno Award (Canadian Grammy) winner (info to be released later).
We did several covers, all necessary rights were obtained.

Despite that, the CD has not been released as of yet....

Maybe down the road..... or maybe just a special KVR "Music Cafe" release.....

If you've gone to that length of effort and gotten every possible permit,
then you should definitely release the CD.
