My KVR OSC #159 entry: Jam Surge

Wanted to do more, but ended up just jamming around due to being late to the party...

This is mainly one take as I hadn't too much time for editing.

So... this is coming back from a very long break... and it seems it shows in having unused creative muscles..
Hoping to get back and more into music!

Meanwhile... just playing around and trying to have some fun

My latest effort chucked into the ring:
https://soundcloud.com/violator-alba-99 ... al_sharing

This uses 13 instances of Surge XT 1.0.1. Twelve for sounds and one instance for the tape plugin. All running in Waveform Pro 12 with the following additional plugins:
Multiple instances of Waveform's built in 1 and 3 band EQs
Multiple instances of the built in compressor
Multiple instances of the built in Natural Reverb
Multiple instances of Voxengo Stereo Touch
The inevitable multiple instances of Valhalla Supermassive
A single instance of AudioModern panflow
Waveform's MasterMix plugin
Voxengo Span

Hopefully a bit less harsh than last month's effort...

No, only what comes with Surge.
Thanx.

This is my submission. Brutal feedback please!

https://soundcloud.com/treeheated/crowsbane

DAW: Reaper
Plugin counts:
- VST3i: Surge XT (Surge Synth Team) (2->6ch) x19 [17 for instruments, 1 for verb send, 1 for mastering]

I stepped a fair way out of my comfort zone this time. It was highly educational. I thought I already knew Surge reasonably well, but the need to try to reproduce certain sounds pushed me to explore the oscillators, filters and effects a lot further than I would have otherwise - even if I didn't quite manage to make it completely convincing. (And I didn't even try the Lua stuff, which seems like my kind of thing but the composition didn't call for it.)

Work time: 21 hours on the project, plus a couple of hours in preliminary sound design and probably about 10 hours of research.

Not the kind of music I like, but pretty impressive, especially considering it's done with a synth.

The drums suck, but we know about the constraints. I am struggling with the same problem. :(

Well, this is the easiest post ever!

This track was made with a single instance of Surge XT (the nightly) and no other effects.

z.prime - Echoes

To reiterate:

Surge XT: 1
Effects: none

Enjoy! :)

P.S. I've attached the preset to this post.

I discovered this competition a bit late in the month, and didn't have much time.
Just beginning to learn my way around this amazing synth.
The tune was inspired by the sounds of the Vancouver Skytrain.
21 instances of Surge XT
Cubase 11
1 instance of the Steinberg compressor
That's it

Thanks! Yeah, it's the best I could do at my current skill level. It's reminded me how easy I made it for myself in my past few entries, by not trying to replicate (non-synthesized) sounds.

Haha - thank you! When I first started taking part in OSC, I guessed that Surge would come up again one day, and promised myself that I would try to make metal.

Hi All

I started out a bit confused by some of the changes to surge but eventually got to grips with some reading the manual and some help from others. Kudos to the people who made and continue to contribute to the development of this synth, it's a sound designers dream come true.

The lack of visual feedback i found really pushes you to use your ears more. I don't think a single month or even a single year is long enough to fully appreciate everything it has to offer and i can't wait to hear what amazing things everyone has done with it.

Here's my submission for this month, hope you enjoy!
