What is taking them to release a MKS-20 Legendary plugin? It's a major bread & butter unit used for gospel keyboardists to this day....

As far as sounds go the plugouts sound fantastic, but the functionality and GUI feels like arturia in early 2000's

It is one of the few iconic Roland units they haven't modeled yet, that also adds something to the lineup.krismiller1982 wrote: Tue Jun 21, 2022 12:10 am What is taking them to release a MKS-20 Legendary plugin? It's a major bread & butter unit used for gospel keyboardists to this day....
I saw it was mentioned a D-70 was in the works, but that was a while ago. So, who knows.
Then of course V-synth, but to rebuild the VariPhrase may be a challenge.
Perhaps people would like the R-8 too with all the expansions. Though you probably have a lot of it in Zenology. There's a couple of old obscure drum machines too that they could add, for the collectors.

Yeah R8MK2 with all waveforms included, those roland drumromsounds are the best in my book.RikkShow wrote: Tue Jun 21, 2022 12:37 amPerhaps people would like the R-8 too with all the expansions. There is so much power in those, still use the samples in my DAW.
CR68/78 etc, cool but I rather have the r8mk2, there are samples of the cr78 in that. The cr8000 and such are not much in demand I think.
Offtopic: MFB had at one time the MFB Kult hardware desktop unit with almost all (well many) old drum/rhythmboxes in it (DX/OB/Soundmaster/DR55 etc) that was one awesome unit, too bad it only had one stereo out. and a somewhat weak output. I think is was only 150 bucks or so.

Did someone from Roland say a D-70 was in the works? I'd be interested in that one.RikkShow wrote: Tue Jun 21, 2022 12:37 amIt is one of the few iconic Roland units they haven't modeled yet, that also adds something to the lineup.krismiller1982 wrote: Tue Jun 21, 2022 12:10 am What is taking them to release a MKS-20 Legendary plugin? I'm not sure why unless there are some specific patches you're after - it wasn't that popular at the time because people *thought* (because of the name, an intentional marketing swerve) it would be a next-gen D50 - it wasn't. It was just a U-20 rompler with a few more samples and not that good sounding synthy bits, with a CPU that was too slow to handle MIDI properly...Examigan wrote: Tue Jun 21, 2022 3:20 pm Did someone from Roland say a D-70 was in the works? Not Roland's finest moment, but some people do like the early romplers (I also very much disliked the U20, so I'm biased...

I never actually played a D-70, but I did use the D-50 back in the day. I was hoping it took over from where the D-50 left off, but it seems as though it didn't.

Exactly... It was originally going to be called the U-50 iirc, but they renamed it as a "D"-synth to cash in on the market success of the D50. You thought exactly what the public thought at the time. And the public responded by not buying it.Examigan wrote: Tue Jun 21, 2022 5:06 pm I never actually played a D-70, but I did use the D-50 back in the day. I don't think it makes sense to remake all the Roland romplers of that era. Yes, some people love the Sound Canvas stuff (nostalgia) but I've seen people ask for D-110's or MT32's and U110s - all the cheap, limited, not-great sounding stuff. I think it absolutely made sense to do a JV-1080 (well kinda) but why anyone would want a D110 or U20 is beyond me. It's like take the D50, make it sound worse in every way you can, strip out a lot of useful features - and there you go. BITD you didn't buy a D-110 because it was a great synth, you bought it because you wanted a D50 and couldn't afford it, or wanted a cheap MIDI module to add more options when sequencing arrangements (and in that role, it succeeded admirably imo).
And the U-110 (along with the Proteus and a few other boxes) is really the epitome of the dawn of "rompler" as a derogatory term - a box with a bunch of samples you basically could do nothing with except alter the attack and release, that was about it - not very inspiring to synthesists, but a cheap way to increase your palette of sounds when we couldn't afford a sampler and all we could afford was cheap hardware synths, or 303/101/909s/Pro-1s etc...
MKS20 though, yes (and the MKS80), they would be good cloud additions, along with all the other usual suggestions. I'm glad to see ACB is still kicking though.

Yeah I had a U220 and it is very basic. The jv1080/jv2080 was a studio workhorse, almost everybody had one at some point in the 90s. The actual synthengine is very capable, the 4 partials etc. Just like the D50, wich is one of my fav vintage-synths, it has a massive range of sounds from very digital bells etc to very creamy analog soundig pads
I still would prefer the alpha juno before the mks range (mks10/20/30/70) But with the stubborness from rolandcloud it will be more likely that cherry audio / arturia / or even softube (I hope last one will do it) will release one before roland.

There has been plenty of talk about it here - perhaps you're not reading the thread. Trundle back to the JP4 release date posts and read forward from there if you want to catch up.chk071 wrote: Tue Jun 21, 2022 8:24 pm Surprised there is no chat here about the Roland Cloud Jupiter-4:

You should see D-70 as the predecessor to all the later 4-tone synthesizers that came after, JV-1080 and such. It didn't take over from the D-50, it started the new era of 4-tone/layer synths. But it reads all the first gen PCM cards from the U series.Examigan wrote: Tue Jun 21, 2022 5:06 pm I never actually played a D-70, but I did use the D-50 back in the day. It sounds nice and has what is considered the best Roland digital filter chip ever made, same that you also found in their high end sampler S-770.
Yes, its CPU struggled under high midi load, but not much of an argument for a VST.

I'd like to see a recreation of one of their early samplers but I doubt if that is going to happen.
As a consolation they could release the factory library of samples.
