Hi,
i just want to share a little piano piece i wrote today.
I used the Glass Piano from Labs and tried to write something like a fuge... but i dont really know if it would count as one
the bass voice that keeps repeating from the beginning should be the theme/dux
but as i was implementing the other voices i got confused about what a fuge is...
anyway i kind of like the little piece that got out of this
have a nice day

No it's not a fugue really...a lot of serious boxes to tick to get inside that musical structure!
But that doesn't matter at all as it works very well as a simple well put together piano piece led by some lovely little melodic fragments and phrases.
Enjoyed it!

The reason for trying to do a fugue, was to learn from the structural process of the piece, for i struggle with keeping an interesting simple pattern. You are balls deep in music for so many years, would you spare some advice on what topics could be interesting to get into?
Anyway thanks for the kind words, allways cheers me up

Possible 'structure' starting points that are definitely more accessible than fugal writing:Babylon420 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 6:46 pmHaha its wonderful, that there is so much to learn. 1) GROUND BASS - where a short repeated melodic phrase in the bass underpins / supports the higher parts.
https://www.musictheoryacademy.com/comp ... ound-bass/
Above link gives classical and pop examples + possible starting points in using the idea.
2) CANON (round) - Three Blind Mice / London's Burning / Row Row Row Your Boat / Pachelbel's Canon...just needs one well constructed melody that weaves around itself.
Loads of videos on Youtube!
3) Binary Form / Ternary Form.
A section followed by a contrasting B Section
A section followed by a contrasting B Section and then back to the A section to finish (sometimes with a few little changes and variations)
Slightly cheesy video, but it always proved very effective in explaining the basics of musical structure to my students of all ages and abilities!

4) Theme and Variations - write a short 'complete' section of music and then create new versions of the same 'theme'...tweak the melody / rhythm / underlying harmonies etc etc.

HI!
I agree with ChameleonMusic, Your music works, and I am enjoying the composition.
The piano is quite relaxing, and the melodies are tamed and harmonious, the way I like it.

Wow, thats really something. The ground bass method sounds pretty interesting especially for practicing on writing the cantus firmus...which i guess should be the basic for something like a fugue.ChameleonMusic wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 9:36 pmPossible 'structure' starting points that are definitely more accessible than fugal writing:Babylon420 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 6:46 pmHaha its wonderful, that there is so much to learn. In the past I did some experiments with Pachelbels canon but could not reach something satisfying. I like that progression but at least when i try to write with it, it sounds like it wants to go on and evolve into something more, but changing the key or the progression proofs to be hard.
Seems like a good Idea to go into these classic canon songs to learn some basic ideas of how things can work
The videos also seem very interesting, definitly going to check them out.
Thanks you gave me a good direction
