I have covers for my synth gear and they still manage to collect dust.

Got my Xaoc Koszalin. It's beautifully weird. Aside from the obvious psychedlic swirly modulation and making harmonic things inharmonic, it pings pretty nicely (not with predictable/controllable pitch though) and the simultaneous up/down outputs and stereo make it great for self-patching. And the TZFM input adds quite a twist.

Patch into the right input, right up output into some effect, effect output into left input, monitor the left down output... the shift up/down is pretty subtle but if you modulate it you can get some cool tape warble among other things. Or mix two opposite outputs to turn it into ring modulation... which is cool if you do it in stereo and almost merge them to center.

It pairs well with Odessa. Use Tension to detune the partials and then try to line them back up again with Koszalin -- usually you fail but you might create some cool chords/clusters/drones in the process.

It's thru-zero, so if you lower a frequency band below zero it doesn't just silence (like the Freq Shift device in Bitwig) but reflects around 0Hz. That gives a whole different range of inharmonic tones to play with.

It lacks a wet/dry control but given the self-patching possibilities, sometimes it's better to mix that yourself anyway. As far as barberpole modulation goes, the feedback serves a similar but more variable role to a wet/dry mix anyway.

Also yesterday I got my first build progress photo of the Miezo 18 I ordered -- the body carved and drilled and the fretboard assembled. The two woods match very nicely. I expect the rest of the build probably won't take long...

not 100% sure this is the right thread, but, it's studio related, so ...
cheap usb projector and some slinky's inbound! :band:

You can build a spring reverb from a slinky, and even if you don't they can provide inspiration, so sure, it's studio gear. :D

i was thinking just hanging them and adding contacts, may eventually build a slinky reverb, with a giant one, that might be fun :o

I’ve wanted one of these since it was released.

How do you like using it alongside all the Elektron gear? Does it have a place still or was this more a “fun” purchase?
It's pretty cool, very compact and light, perfect for sitting on my lap while I veg in front of the TV. It was mostly an opportunistic buy, since the original owner was local and selling it pretty cheap. I was thinking that maybe it would replace my Digitakt, thinking that my RYTM mk2 and TR-6S could cover its abilities, but after using it for a couple of evenings, I don't think so. The TR-6S really sounds great and is fun to make some beats on, but it has some pretty glaring omissions, notably no song mode or even an ability to trigger different patterns via MIDI. Does Roland not understand that people buy these types of instruments to (gasp!)... make songs? Also, no chance/probability/randomization makes for some pretty static beats (although it does have some limited automation and assignable last step to get some variability). Makes me glad that I didn't go all out and buy a TR-8S while they're currently on sale.

Anyway, it sounds great and is pretty much exactly what I wanted for a fun little dedicated x0x box, but it won't get nearly the amount of use that my Elektrons are getting and my Digitakt is staying put alongside my RYTM and A4.

I have a TR-8S and don’t use it now precisely because of that lack of randomisation plus I have a limited number of inputs and the Elektron gear doesn’t use any of them up. One fun thing that got added in a firmware update was FM and you can use it to play tunes if you want to.

Are you safe?

Yeah, seems like it would be a no-brainer to add via firmware, but still should've been there from the beginning IMO.

Yup, gotta love those Elektron boxes. I'm still kicking myself for being such a late convert :dog:

I've used some of the FM drum sounds, but haven't tried playing tunes with it yet. Looks like I've got something new to try tonight!

Nice. I have a lamp that makes kinda watery textures, but it's kind of out of easy reach. (It has a button to start it on a timer, so I can't just leave it turned on and stick it on a power strip or remote socket or something.)

got my eye on a Hydrasynth Explorer. Damn you Paypal pay in 3.

if you will excuse the spam a moment...

using visual synth, to project stuff like this on to the wall next to the synth as i play, and record that through a camera so you get to see im actually involved

i like the visuals in these videos, but as i can go on for a while, it needs the human/machine elements too i think, at least sometimes :)

and i expect it to be more washed out, like one of those colour lamps, as ill be using the wall which is bigger than the recommended screen size :hihi:
if i feel the need for better quality images i can always buy a better one, this is pretty much an experiment with a kids projector

i did think about some lights too, but don't want to waste sockets :hihi:
