System-8 is nice but it's not in the Legendary catergory so it can't be chosen for the Play-4-Life.
The JD-800 is pretty cool. I like it and it's quick and easy to make patches.
My favorite would be either the D-50 or XV-5080.

Aira and Legendary can be Choosen in Play4Life unless they have changed something again.
It is only the other products that are not In the play4life (Zenology Products and the Daw + some other bits).

OK, well then they should change the wording on their website:
https://www.roland.com/cloud/promos/play4life/

A Lifetime Key lets you keep a Legendary Roland Instrument forever -- even if you no longer subscribe. With the Ultimate Play 4 Life offer, you can try them all for a whole year before choosing your favorite two to keep.

I got a system8 lifetime key as a reward

I emailed their support and you're right about System-8. But they did agree that the part I mentioned about on their site isn't quite spelling it out correctly. On the screen below it seems to point to the Legendary category only:

But I found this in the fine print at the bottom of the page which does mention Aira and some others they have:

At the end of your annual membership, choose one Legendary, AIRA, or SRX Lifetime Key for Pro membership or two Legendary, AIRA, or SRX Lifetime Keys for Ultimate membership.

The Sound Canvas was the first thing I ever made music with, and I had a lot of fun with it, but I have to say it looks a bit out of place on a list of "legendary" gear (especially between the 1080 and 5080…it's like a Datsun between a BMW and a Porsche).

So very tempting. This is literally the only way I sub to Roland Cloud - I require those Play-4-Life licenses as rewards for my hard earned cash. That said, so far I've done this several times (earned 6 perpetual licenses that way), but not sure I'm ready to commit again this year. Had they released an actual ACB version of the JX-8P that I could load onto my System 8, I probably would have. But they didn't, so... here's hoping to next year. Again. Lol

Does anyone know if the BIN files from the VST plugin are compatible with the JD-08 or is that yet another format?
Aaaand it's done! :D

https://github.com/sagamusix/JDTools/releases/tag/v0.8

The JD-800 VST's .bin format is now supported. As people here might already know (but I didn't until... yesterday), those patches can also be loaded straight into Zenology (I suppose you need to have the JD-800 model expansion installed for that). And what's EVEN better, in Zenology I found that there is a "hardware export" option, which generates SVZ files that I assume must be compatible with the JD-08. I added support to convert from and to this .svz format as well, so if someone with a JD-08 can actually confirm that this process works, that would be great... :)

Great job - thanks for figuring this out!

Hopefully those people that will benefit from this it can express their heartfelt thanks for the not-insignificant effort that goes into making these tools, and if you have the various hardware please test and send in feedback if you want people to continue to develop these kind of very niche solutions... :tu:

Thanks! :tu:

The BobbyBlues site has many sysex JD-800 banks if anyone wants to try converting them. :)

Post

Fun fact: The reason why it's so difficult to do this conversion is because you have to pre-compute all the ZenCore parameters from the original JD-800 parameters (and you need to include the original parameters in the file as well for the plugin UI to show the correct values...). When I tried to verify that my pre-computed values are correct, I did a round-trip conversion of the preset bank that comes with the JD-800 VST... and it didn't round-trip correctly for all but the first patch. Because the other patches apparently store incorrect ZenCore parameters, which were maybe pre-computed with an older version of the plugin. Wiggling the sliders a bit fixes them. This means that for all but the first preset you won't quite hear the same sound when playing the presets compared to dialling the presets yourself. This combined with the incorrect tuning of some of the waveforms, shows how much attention to detail went into these products... not.

This tool is windows only so I cannot test it.Maybe I can send my sysex banks and somebody can convert them i use a Mac.

The code itself is platform-independent; if you have the possibility to compile it yourself, I can provide the necessary build system files (i.e. creating a CMake project) so that it can be built for macOS and Linux as well, but I cannot provide a ready-made macOS executable.
