The only thing to remember with the UVI package is that AFAIK you can’t access the WAVs. I love using the samples in Battery and XO in particular.

Just to get you started, there are decent free samples out there of classic drum machines.
KB6 and Goldbaby were already mentioned, I'll add that Reverb has also a decent collection of free samples (search for 'The Complete Collection'). With those you should have a taste of what's the sound you're after and perhaps look for better sample packs. Anything Roland x0x, Boss DRxxx, Oberheim DX/DMX, Linn and perhaps Alesis were the most used, afaik. I would add the Cheetah MD-16 for more obscure britpop of the era.

I been using the NI Maschine software a lot. It seems a bit unintuitive to me though.

I have Spark 2, but sadly it's another proprietary format so I can't use the WAVs in anything else.

80's drum machines are so varied, it was either analogue synthesis (for an example early Roland tr55, cr78 ,tr808 stuff etc) generated or drum samples of real instruments / recordings - the tr909 doing both, just processed and a bit crunchy as a bye product of the limited technology of the time - (In a good way) btw. to the fully digital stuff from all the peeps mentioned above.
I'd play with a modern acoustic drum library - "NI Studio Kit" perhaps or similar and 80's fi it with white noise, lowpass filter and a bit of bit reduction. - Go wild.
Cheers.

Trk-01 freebie, d16 909 and 808, drumlab.
Ableton live comes with a lot of sampled drumkits too, which i would use if i didn't have the aforementionned machines already.
