Second Woman used the trick a lot too
There are a few tracks by the great Stretta (especially one that I can no longer find) which paid a fantastic tribute to this.
Within Ableton/M4L, the best implementation to me so far is : https://www.ableton.com/en/packs/flexgroove/
Cool tunes from Seond Woman :hyper:

Adding pattern switching to automation is quite easy technically.

The problem is... many DAWs don't send out sample accurate automation, so it's possible that on some DAWs if you use automation your patterns won't trigger exactly when you want them, and it will quantize to whatever buffer size you're using, which would not be so pleasant, I think.

With MIDI, we could be certain that people sequencing patterns would always get the timing they asked for.

Ah, that is new useful info for me. Using midi notes is the way to go then.

I work like that quite a lot. Here's how I set it up:
1. Open Beat Scholar
2. Open drum rack in another channel
3. In the drum rack channel, set both the channel input and plugin input to be "Beat Scholar" (see image)
4. In Beat Scholar, click the preset menu and close the sampler so it stops making sound and reduces CPU usage.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

@innervisions, thanks. Unless I overlooked something, that looks like one would set up pretty much any other device in Ableton:-D Im really excited to try out Beat Scholar :phones:

Usually I ignore threads about drum machines. Seeing this growing faster than normal made me curious. Then seeing two musicians of one of my favorite bands (Project RnL) made me watch it. And I must say also reading the posts and seeing the fast responses now turned me into high excitement! The whole approach would finally lead hopefully more people getting out of the usual boring four to the floor and introduce highly groovy other beats.
I have to link to at least a bit of their music:

This makes me dance! And I always wondered about the compositional secrets of Eyal. A small part of the secret is lifted with this app...!

Ha! Same here. :)
I never use drums or drum machines, bit I am tempted to buy this one. Just because I liked the intro video, and you have to support prog rockers, no?

It makes me think of a super pro expanded version of the Groove Pizza app.

Looks awesome, will definitely try it.

WOW! I had no idea that thing existed. It's brilliant! Though our pizzas have more toppings and secret sauce... :D

And most important, its not just a classical (limited) drum sequencer rolled up to one pizza trapped on a web site. Yours has many different pizzas in different flavors and all at the same time...
(And a brilliant bass player who sometimes shares a pizza with us...)

Does anyone know, when the intro discount offer ends? :o

Beat Scholar is now at PB for $79 with about $7 in store credits, plus a free product on checkout. Right now is a cool sample instrument from MNTRA (I use their stuff and they are pretty cool and experimental) and a cool looking reverb.

The PB listing states the sale will be from 02 Sep - October 02, 2022.

One thing about PB I've noticed is when there are product updates sometimes you have to get the update from PB for a PB purchased product. However some product updates are not managed on PB and through the dev as usual. I am not sure how Scholar updates will work with PB in this regard but something to keep in mind.

Hey! So we're constantly sending Plugin Boutique the latest versions, even though sometimes there's a short delay between when we post the updates and when it updates on their site.

AFAIK even if you buy from PB you should be able to also use updates from our site along with the license file you get from them - essentially if you download the demo you get the latest installer.

There's no functional difference between the demo and the full version, other than the trial time limit which will only apply if you don't have an active license.

Ah man... thank you so much for these kind words!

Yeah, a lot of what happens here is really based on how Or, I and some of our musician friends describe rhythm. In fact - some present and past project RnL members like Sharon Petrover, Alon Tamir and Yogev Gabay have all contributed presets to Beat Scholar (under 'artists').
