Having tried the demo of the Arturia prophet vector synth emulation I am intrigued.

I'm also skint and missed the recent sale for this. Are there any cheaper/freeware alternatives?

Thanks

(probably still 32 bit though)

Maybe post a WTB email in the forum? Someone could want to get rid of the original Prophet V plugin which does both Prophet 5 and VS emulations, including a combination.

I saw a well-priced offer of Arturia Prophet V3 including both Prophet 5 and VS recently on the KVR Sell&Buy . (OT: Actually I like the old Prophet 5 from Arturia better than the new one in direct comparison to Repro 5)

If you have TAL Sampler then you could immediately compose music with Espen Kraft's Prophet VS sample instrument library. But check out the video above and decide for yourself if you like the patches/sounds.

Espen Kraft - The Digital Collection Vol.4 Sequential Prophet VS costs £16.95.

On the subject of sample libraries, there is also this. I've used Vector X and it includes most of the more memorable presets that I recalled from having had the real thing way back in the day.

Yes :) ... didn't have the link ready. I would actually also be interested, but as a new user with less than 5 posts I couldn't reply or PM. Well, probably that problem is solved now too.

... well looks like some people think the old VS from Arturia didn't sound too close to the original, at least up to including V2: https://www.kvraudio.com/product/prophe ... views/3500 . But I don't have hardware to compare.

It really depends on your expectations. Did is sound "like" a Prophet VS? Yeah. Was it off? Yes, especially in the way it rendered the waveforms. They sounded very clean and modern, as if someone made 24 bit versions of the waves.

Speaking of, if you hunt around, you can find Prophet VS wavetables and import them into something like Vital. You don't have the 4 blendable waveforms, but using macros you could blend between three pretty easily. I can't remember if it has some sort of bit reducer, but that's a good way to get a more old school digital type sound, as the VS had 8 bit waveforms.

any modular environment you already have access to like VCV rack or bitwig's grid could do it by just mapping two blend modules (one for X and one for Y) to an XY modulator.

I have owned a Prophet VS from when it was first released. It’s in very good shape. When Arturia first brought out their version (saddled to a P5) I did a lot of comparisons between the real deal and the Arturia.

If you play between C1 and C2, Arturia’s samples almost hold up with the filter wide open, but you can hear a bit of a low end deficiency. It’s when you start heading up above C2 that the Arturia completely falls apart. All kinds of aliasing and harmonic content that the hardware unit doesn’t exhibit. As you go up on the hardware, the response is quite smooth and evenly toned.

The filter isn’t much better. You can hear the diff sweeping with some res. The ADSR rise and release times do not match the hardware.

One last observation: Most of the VS’s parameters are limited to 100 steps (0-99). This resolution has a unique quality as you change a parameter with its data slider or knobs and how it responded to external MIDI controllers. Arturia chose to completely ignore the parameter range resolution. It makes a difference. It also makes it impossible to match real VS settings to the software.

In short, and in my opinion, the original Arturia VS is utter crap and should be avoided.

I can’t speak to the newest version because I don’t own it. But if I do wind up getting it, I’ll do another comparison test and post it.
