Ujam's BM-Vice is unbeatable for awesome 80s drums. It's ultra-simple and has the punchiest sound around. You can use the on-board beats, create your own or mix the two. Try the demo and you'll see how good it is. Since we switched from Battery to Ujam drums, our songs are soudning heaps better than ever and BM-Vice is probably teh best sounding of all of them, even for our EBM/Industrial music.

UVI’s Beatbox Anthology 2 is on sale for $60 which is a good deal, but I’m still not going for it as I want the WAVs.
For 80s acoustic drums, it sounds like you can’t top the new Toontrack SDX The Hitmaker. This based on some of the most iconic drum sounds from Phil Collins, Stewart Copeland, Manu Katche etc. Not cheap, but will keep an eye out for it in future sales (which will likely be a long way off)JockMcRonan wrote: ↑Fri Sep 30, 2022 10:07 pm Not to forget that there were plenty of actual bands producing 80s electronic pop back in the day, often using actual drums. While i am by no means a particularly good drummer (passable at best), I have found a great deal more enjoyment creating drum tracks with my Frankenstein kit built around a Yamaha Stage custom kit with a Nord Drum 3P and a Korg Wavedrum, and I like the feel of live recording drum tracks...I have to admit, this is simply my preference as a hobbyist coming from a band background and I realise that what I do is nowhere near release quality, but if you have the chops, it definitely can be done for an authentic 80s vibe.

In the actual 80's I used a Roland TR-606. Korg Superdrums & Alesis HR-16 ...

Well, if we're going down that path, I started with a TR606, moved on to a KPR-77, then a TR707, which I replaced with a DDD-1 and then a DDD-5. I also had both the DDM-110 and DDM-220 to augment the 707. In the early 90s I bought a Korg S3, to go with my M1. I used it until I got an O1R/W, with it's bigger sequencer, at which time I started using the ROMpler drums and stopped using drum machines altogether.

I had a DR-550 in the 90s for a while, and a borrowed Roland 707, but once I got a sampler I used that more for drum sounds. First sampler was a Cheetah SX-16 (I had 2 of them) and then a Yamaha A3000 which I still own.

I once had a Roland CR78, Roland TR606, TAMA DS200, Pearl Syncussion, Simmons SDS800, Roland TR707, Icon Designs DSM100, Boss DR550 MK2, Roland DR202, Roland TR 808, Roland Handsonic HPD15, Novation Drumstation, Novation DStation, Jomox Airbase 99, Vermona DRM-1, Roland R8, Roland R8M, MFB Kult, Radikal Technologies Spectralis, Korg Electribe ER-1,Korg EMX1. And probably more I forgot.
Now I only use samples. KB6 samples, Samples from Mars and Wave Alchemy Triaz/Drumvolution wavs loaded into TAL Drum. Fully ITB, Happy camper. Dropped NI Maschine and Battery4, TAL Drum has a great sound. For fill-ins I use Sitala next to it in my template. I have around 100 vintage drumbox/rhythm boxes ready to go as a Sitali kit, MIDI mapped and all and changing them on the fly is very nice to check which one suits best for a certain arrangement/track.

They are, but the onboard-sequencer is totally off grid/off beat for me when used in Logic Pro, both V1 and V2 of that plugin.noiseboyuk wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 12:48 pmDoes anyone know if the samples are WAVs on disk?emef wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 11:42 am Sequel 2 is great for 80s drums and a total bargain right now on Plugin Boutique

Hex Drum is another synth option, it's going for that Simons roto drum 80's drum sound.
I still prefer IL's Drumaxx as I can make it sound like any drum.
