Nutmeg Nuisance’s track has inspired me to try some funky slap bass
I notice he uses Waves Bass Slapped VST. What other instruments should I consider? Is Scarbee Jay-Bass an option (there’s no demo).

Also any tips on programming appreciated as I am not a player (bass guitar or keyboard).

Take one mother in law. Slap her hard on a bassdrum. Rinse and repeat.
You have one mother of a slapbass right there.... :D :D :P

Note: works great with a stepmother too.

MODO Bass has a slap mode you can enable/disable on the fly or via programming, along with taps, hammer-ons, slides, and the like. Pretty natural sounding, IMO, especially in a mix.

I've played bass for 37 years and really like Scarbee Jay-Bass.
It came bundled in NI Komplete so it was kind of a lucky find.
I'm sure there are also great physically modeled instruments these days but a bass plugin is the last thing I need. :)

Slap bass has a long history...
From jazz upright bassists like Milt Hinton (starting at 2:06)...

To Larry Graham of Sly & the Family Stone, who started slapping his bass guitar playing in his Mom's street band without a drummer. In the '70s my wife lived down the street from Larry in Oakland, CA. She says that vases, lamps, etc. literally rattled off shelves in her house when Larry was rehearsing. :phones: :help:

OK. But I need to choose one first.
Any advocates for the Waves Bass Slapper?

yes, its good !
its to my understanding from the same maker/makers as the new BeatScholar Drum machine/sequenzer is. At least Or was deeply involved.......if not the main man behind it. (?)

check this video out,
Or is trying to teach Eyal how to slap on the keyboard.
it gives a quite good impression how good it is

i had trillian, modo Bass and this Waves Bass on the SSD on my old computer,
and got the best results with this -waves- one. ( just jamming)
i was a Bassist myself,......but not good enough on the keyboard to get "really" great results with a plugin, haha.

I´d say, your playing technique on the keyboard is the most determing factor here !

ahh here:
Later, Or designed one of the most elaborate bass sample libraries ever made as well as sparking a series of exciting new products for musicians while working with Waves Audio.
