I'm pretty sure no-one alive wants a cover of New Order's Temptation that segues into U2's Running to Stand Still, but I've just made one anyway.

The last year or so, no it started with my fall last october so the last year I have not been in the studio much. The studio has become a catchall during this phase of our lives. I was jamming in the living room and in my bedroom as well as outside (once with an electric when I took the pic, other times with my acoustic) the little I have played.
Note I did not start a thread saying "am I ok, I am not playing?"
In fact the broken record advice I give others in those threads is just what I did, other things in my life that needed attending to or that I just wanted to do. That imo is how life works, this wasnt my first break and it surely wont be my last (well it might, I mean I could keel over while typing this).
Now it's coming roaring back, I kinda figured this would be the case after last month when I got the new pups and pickguard for my beloved Warmoth. Gawd knows where the studio will be, right now right where it is but honestly anything is possible (even an out building for it could be possible but highly unlikely as I dont want to pay property tax on it).
I think we have reached an agreement that I will get a new studio machine but for the winter months I'll stick with my laptop (that kinda sux) in the living room and my studio machine for now if needed. Mostly I am just making myself some backing stuff to have some fun with right now to jam over on my guitars. I suspect by St Paddy's Day I'll have a new laptop from Holly's IT company she uses (she does not have an IT company) and a new tower/desktop for the studio.
I think breaks like this are important, for me I find they encourage growth even while I am dormant. They also cleanse the palete, it's so easy to fall into habits.
I got the baritone out here, I took the dulcimer out and am getting ready to tune it (that means everything is in front of me but damn it's 64 strings
) even bought new hammers for it, the warmoth is sportin new stuffs (and passive)...today I ordered a MOTU M4 for the living room (and outside next year). By this time tomorrow I will have gone in the studio and brought my 49 key akai controller out and at least two Frenzels (the iso cab can stay where it is, I got mic cables and speaker cable).
XMAS time I plan on getting some other instruments to build, I have a nice 12" bandsaw now, routers, a scroll saw, a table saw and I am getting a new table top drill press. I hope to build a mountain dulcimer first (thinking the stew mac kit), a kantele (zither basically), a bowed psaltery and a theremin.
Well that dulcimer wont tune itself
edit:..ooh ooh...I'll put my EMGs from the Warmoth (81 and 89) in my Daion for S&G

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Built a spring/rubber band 'noise box' out of a wooden box for dremel bits and some other junk. Will probably add a piezo mic to it.

Yesterday made a single 1/16 stab out of FM sample. Took maybe a quater.
I need at least a dozen of these for a full loop, but repetable tasks don't go well with my ADHD.

Hit meself in the eye with an acoustic guitar whilst taking the strap back over my head. Only been playing about 40 years.

when I came home from the army my friend decided he wanted to learn to play guitar, he had money so he bought (this was 81 or 82) 30the anniversary gold top Les Paul. He brought it to my house, he sat in a chair, bent to to get the cable and plug it in, the bottom heavy paul not under his control popped the neck right up and the headstock gave him a fat lip. This man has always been animated, to be there was something...no he never learned to play the guitar, he sold the guitar.PatchAdamz wrote: Sat Oct 15, 2022 10:18 pmI hope you sampled that, eye poke samples are hard to find.....donkey tugger wrote: Sat Oct 15, 2022 7:28 pm Hit meself in the eye with an acoustic guitar whilst taking the strap back over my head. Wasn’t deliberate, but can’t help think the country and wider world going to shit hasn’t helped my mood and I’m less inclined to do literally anything at the moment. Consequence is I’ve been playing a bit more with iPad music apps as I can use them from a horizontal position.
Patterning 2 is tremendous fun and there are hundreds of user contributed kits to try out.

I upgraded my Waves bundle from Gold to Platinum about a year ago as it was way cheaper than getting a WUP, it’s now a year later with the licence about to go out of support, thinking about upgrading again as there’s a sale I realised I never got round to checking out some of the plugins I picked up the last time. Got to say I’m kicking myself for not trying out the Renaissance vox and guitar plugins before, they’re great, especially on some stuff I’d recorded with overdubbed background vocals. Won’t make that mistake again, going to dig deeper to see what else I may have missed.

I just spent a few blissful hours noodling around with my PolyBrute and Prophet 6. No recording, no patch saving, just playing and twisting knobs and enjoying the toys I've worked my ass off to fund. It was much-needed bit of therapy after a horrendously long work week.
