I have Project5 v2, but it's not currently installed. Too bad that Cakewalk discontinued it and left it hanging at 32-bit. It was a good concept!

agreed zzz00m,
I haven't written anything in it
but it is the most bug-free v of PSYN I have found
It seems like it would have great workflow with some practice
Dimension was doing something odd/unwanted as far as midi control in it

Well I'm glad that you finally understand how things went down, so I don't have to keep explaining it to you. :D
I fully understood what happened long before this thread.
zzz00m wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 11:05 am it's great that Meng (BandLab CEO) is a music lover and wanted to preserve Cakewalk and the community. Even if it only appears to be a personal project of his, and not his company's source of revenue.
That's the thing people don't talk about these days. At this point Cakewalk by Bandlab is basically a rich boy's toy and if he ever gets bored with it he could drop it just as easily as he picked it up.

He may support it for years to come but then again he may not and if not CWBL might be abandoned again as I'm not sure the former CW employees could continue to develop, distribute, and support the DAW even if they retained the rights to do so.

Immediately after the acquisition, people were concerned it would turn into some form of subscription service and "if it's free then you're the product" was heard more than once. Cakewalk's business model right before being shut down didn't help allay those fears.

So far that hasn't happened and I do appreciate Weng's support and development of CWBL but I never take its continued support for granted.

I tried VST 3 version as well thinking it may stop the crashes but not no avail. I can use it but just have to remember to use Escape to exit the GUI each time to avoid "Cubase has stopped working"

It's a very cool synth, definitely sound of a time but a good sound, very wide capabilities and flexible, powerful....the filters are a little strange and resonance gets like a knife on sandpaper if you get to high with it but stay in the sweet spot and things are pretty nice actually. It is fitting right in the mix. The effects are nice but also a bit strange, the delay sync timing are never quite what I expect every other plug in to do. The reverb sucks in a beautiful way. I even like the GUI.

Escape button.. escape button... escape button.....doh !

I think it's what devs refer to as "the filters explode" at a certain resonance amount.

Like on some other synths, the 24 db lowpass filter is much more prone to do that than the 12 db though. The 12 db one is not nearly as "sharp" and cutting.

I doubt that he's the right person to speak to. z3ta+ is a Cakewalk synth, and has been for a while, even version 1.

If you have it registered on Cakewalk's site, you find the installer and your serial there.

Well, I owned z3ta+ when it wasn't a CW synth. I am talking about z3ta+ 1.

Irrelevant, that's not the way the world works. He's just a private person now, not a support contact (for this plugin that he once programmed).

Ah, OK. So he sold his whole company rgcaudio with everything to Cakewalk? I am not sure what I might miss here. I was a beta tester and a sound designer for him before any Cakewalk business was relevant. I don't want to steal or freely grab anything illegally. I would even pay for z3ta+ 1.5.3 if possible. I hope that clears it up. Thanx for your help.

I don't think so. He rather ceased his company, and worked for Cakewalk then.

See here: http://audiotools.com/en_mi_dead_r.html
René G. Ceballos

Argentinian gentleman based in Buenos Aires, started putting out freeware VST signal processing and virtual instruments in the year 2000 under the RGC Audio brand, although later he preferred the stylised rgc:audio. Some of the plugins became very popular in particular a virtual analogue called "Triangle" which was for years the most popular freeware softsynth available, but Mr Ceballos also released commercial software such as the "sfz+" sample playback engine and virtual synths "Square I", "z3ta+" and the "Pentagon I".

The sfz+ and the z3ta+ in particular became very popular and caught they eye of USA software house Cakewalk (owned by Roland) who hired Mr Ceballos to create a few utilities and a virtual analogue subtractive synthesiser called PSYN which they sold as part of bundles, and shipped with the more expensive versions of their Sonar sequencer. The co-operation went well enough for Cakewalk to make an offer for the product line and in January 2005 it was sold and Mr Ceballos went to work for the company. He left Cakewalk in 2011 and now works as a manager for Newsan in his native Argentina. In 2009 Cakewalk released as freeware some of the soft synths such as Square One and Pentagon that had been commercial offerings from RGC Audio, and they can be downloaded form their store without charge.
I.e. they bought the rights for his products, and he worked for them, until he left in 2011. Z3TA 2, for example, uses his original code, but, I don't think he was actively involved in the development.

Ah, thanx a lot for the info. We somehow lost contact shortly after he started working for Cakewalk. Now many years later I thought that I would like to check out my old presets from back then. Nostalgia.

I guess if you knew him 'socially', someone here could (maybe?) contact him about it - via more private channels. (I mean: not just post his private email address on the forum)
