so thanks to you we don't have VST2 for free anymore ...for me it's not a good newskivier wrote: Fri Dec 16, 2022 5:30 pm I have good news, discoDSP updates the warning message from its webpage:
The new message removes the ambiguous words non-commercial use. Remember, the developers has right to sell free software (GPL3 license allows). Please, consider to buy or to donate free software projects like this. So, with no doubt about the original confusion, go to make music, enjoy it and be happy and if you can make some money with your art don't forget the software that make it possible.Demo includes fully functional Standalone app and VST3 plug-in.
AAX, Audio Unit, VST2 and LV2 are included with the registered version.
Source code and binaries are under GPL3 license.
Thanks for all your effort discoDSP. Keep rolling.

I'm seeing this now on DiscoDSP website:
"Demo includes fully functional Standalone app, Audio Unit and VST plug-ins.
AAX, VST3 and LV2 are included with the registered version.
Source code and binaries are under GPL3 license. "
https://www.discodsp.com/obxd/
If that means that I can use the VST(2) version for free even for commercial music I'm ok, sorry for VST3 only DAWs users...

I think apart from Cubase 12 on Mac M1, there is no such thing yet.mabian wrote: Sat Dec 17, 2022 7:56 pm If that means that I can use the VST(2) version for free even for commercial music I'm ok, sorry for VST3 only DAWs users...![]()

No, you can compile from source code. It's some nerdy but not impossible.beely wrote: Fri Dec 16, 2022 5:35 pm So they've removed the free version completely, and only sell it now?
discoDSP now provides VST2, few days ago provides VST3 (discoDSP can change it in future). You can always have the last version of OB-Xd. Again: with GPL3 license you have the source code (https://github.com/reales/OB-Xd) and you can compile to any format.Vortifex wrote: Sat Dec 17, 2022 8:30 pm I don't get it. I currently use the earlier free VST2 version. Does this mean I can no longer update it without buying a registered version?
discoDSP provides VST2 binary. But, now we have the certainty that OB-Xd is completely free: even commercial use. I repeat, we have the source code and we can compile/building to any format in any OS (Linux, MacOS and Windows).akira2 wrote: Sat Dec 17, 2022 6:02 pm so thanks to you we don't have VST2 for free anymore ...for me it's not a good news

Yes, you can. discoDSP gives us VST2 binary from his official webpage.Vortifex wrote: Sat Dec 17, 2022 9:52 pm I have no idea what you are saying here. Can I still update my free VST2 version or not?
But we have the source code of OB-Xd from github repository. So, we can compile OB-Xd and have our own plugin in any format (VST2, VST3, LV2, etc).
OB-Xd is free software and we can do anything with it.

Today the original author, 2Dat, has granted a commercial license for OB-Xd.
This means that the previous discoDSP OB-Xd GPL3 license tie is waived and certain restrictions now apply to our free software.
Please visit OB-Xd website for more information.

This is totally shady, let me say it.
The information on the website leaves a lot of confusion:
"OB-Xd free demo version does not allow commercial use (1)
Demo includes fully functional Standalone app, Audio Unit and VST plug-ins.
Registered version delivers commercial rights and AAX, VST3 and LV2 plug-ins."
And...
"(1) The term commercial purposes means the carriage of the software for any fare, fee, rate, charge or other consideration, or directly or indirectly in connection with any business, or other undertaking intended for profit.."
Clear question that needs a clear answer: Earning money with a song in which the plugin has been used is commercial usage or not?
Sorry but this way of conducting business is a "no" from me.
I wanted to use this, but I'm going to steer away now...

Looks like an “honour system” approach, far as I can tell .. ?
So, you still have options there, depending on your PoV. Technically.
Or hey, if you are definitely going to use it in commercial releases .. just buy a license?
Alternatively, there are many legitimately freeware / open license synths still out there. Pick one?
edit: As for me, it seems half-assed. If it’s a paid synth, just ******* sell the damn thing. Otherwise, it should be truly free. But sip, whatevs.
