Hello,
my new compo here.
Nocturne
Harp, choir, solo strings are samples by spitfire
My voice is captured by my dear AKG414 XLS.
Clarinet is modeling (Swam). (and it is new for me, I appreciate a lot the potential)

Another really nice piece.
Have you ever compared the C414 XLS to the XLII?
I also use a C414 XLS. I tried the XLII, as it is voiced for voice and said to be closer to the vintage C12B, but I ended up liking the XLS better, even on voice. It sounds more natural and seems to take loads of EQ without getting harsh much better than the XLII.

Absolutely, it's the XLS. I have a rather long story with this microphone: 10 years ago I had a paired couple that I liked a lot, but I did not find them all the clarity sought as main microphones for classic omni sound recordings. And this is quite normal, because in the end, they worked well but without compensation for the diffuse field. So I resold them to first take Geffell (which I did not like because they were the opposite of the 414, too high), then finally with immense satisfaction a couple of Schoeps with the MK2s and MK4 capsules. It was really what I needed. But I still have always a little regretted having sold the AKGs because frankly they are beautiful if they are used correctly. So recently, I came across a Cash converter shop on a totally new 414 XLS at an indecent price! (For the resale of some DIY, I was able to get it for 200 euros)...
It enters as a magnificent addition to my microphone park, and I rediscover it for singing shots in relative proximity where it excels!
And then, not to say, it's really a microphone that has everything for it, a real personality of its design and a splendid sound personality, with a slightly medium side, but never unpleasant distortion, it takes just about everything and then inserts itself with a slight work on it to adapt it to the context.
