Sonic says W8.1 is the minimum requirement, so I've spent the day trying to get that to work, but with the same results. There seems to be a block in Media Bay that the others need to complete the usual processes of installing and running. (Got both to install by downloading directly from site.) Neither H7 or HS7 will start fully and both show an error in not finding the "Entry Point".
Contacting support, but I've never had them respond when they see these as a "presale" question...

Other than FM, is there any reason to get Halion 7? I have Diva, Massive X, ableton live 11 suite, NI komplete 13 ultimate.

Only the next sale in case you suffer from GAS…; - )

If you have Komplete Ultimate you probably don’t need anything ever!
I would say Kontakt + the instruments you get is a better romper than HALion…but HALion can actually sample if that’s important to you, it can also covert samples to wavertables, deconstruct, spectral…it has a little bit of most Steinberg tech and engines.

None of the synths in HALion are particularly special on their own, its main USP is being a big multi layered multitimbral synth…a workstation type sound.

I think it’s worth having either a HALion or a Falcon for this purpose, but you can active similar (maybe even better) results racking instruments in Live… they just won’t be things people could use in other DAWS (single instrument presets). Personally at this time I would pick Falcon over HALion, but you ca t demo Falcon so you have to take a leap of faith!
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I've tested HALion now since the demo has been available, and while the FM is somewhat average with some odd workflow choices, the spectral oscillator is where it's at. This beast is one of the best-sounding, most unique sound generators I've heard in a while. The time-stretching is not a another glittery granular mess, but these beautiful epic pads that still sound like the original source material.

Don't get me wrong, I won't be buying HALion anytime soon, because literally everything else is either just ok, not ok or difficult to use. But the spectral osc. really stood out-

Of course you can do custom algorithms. It really is the whole FM Zone.
And I think it can have 4 Layers? (Of FM, ofc).

I'm not into sampling. At least not yet if at all. I also have cubase pro 12, but only the halion sonic or se, whatever it's called. Does cubase have similar sampling capabilities? I haven't used cubase much as I've been mainly using ableton.

Is the spectral oscillator the same one as the one in padshop 2?

IMO, no.
Just get FM Lab, which IS the FM part of HALion for less money.
I also have other stuff, including Falcon which I find superior to HALion in every way.
But I do want the FM engine which is truly special.
So I'll either get FM Lab now or wait for a deal on Absolute since I'm looking to get Groove Agent and Backbone anyway. Investing time in HALion as it is now it's not worth it, IMO.

I had no interest in HALion (as a Falcon user) until they added FL LAB and Spectral...now for the cross grade price (220 or something) I think its was worth it 'for me', but it still needs a lot of work in a lot of areas....hopefully Steinberg will continue to develop it with pace. Most of the synths need a GUI work over (so they are more like FM Lab) and the Wavetabe synth is quite limited - its very good at making wavetables but then there are not so many options for morphing them...its no Serum!

I can't find that on my FM Lab, only presets Algorithms (DX, TX, FM-X etc).
In FM Zone it's in the 'Algo' tab:

Where is it in FM Lab please?

Click the FM Osc strip above the Oscilloscope, which gets you to the real stuff.
Then click the Pencil, leftmost icon in the same area.

Ohhh lovely stuff, thanks for that! I never even noticed the pencil! I think it's because it's to the left of the magnifying glass... oddly.

Nice find.

I know where to go now when I need an Alto Glockenspiel
Sample Fuel also have a collection of free instrumente for HALon. They are just appetizers for the full versions they sell, with just a few sounds, but they work, theyplay, and they are free.

Does Halion include the Motif/Montage sounds?
