Would be even cooler if someone who didn't use iLok made one.

What about a JoMoX Sunsyn? There’s like 12 and they’re a billion dollars, but sound fantastic. Seems like someone could step up and maybe even partner with JoMoX, since they’re not making them.

They’re the best bet for getting one done right, though. Arturia next.shatteredmindofbob wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 7:14 pmWould be even cooler if someone who didn't use iLok made one.

I never understood the cult behind the Sunsyn. As far as I can tell it's a good sounding synth in a very limited release. Am I missing something?zerocrossing wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 8:08 pm What about a JoMoX Sunsyn? There’s like 12 and they’re a billion dollars, but sound fantastic. Nope. That’s it. Just a great sounding synth that wasn’t around long enough.DrGonzo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 8:14 pmI never understood the cult behind the Sunsyn. MG-1 and Source > Prodigy, IMO. But when I was typing that, I really had the Micromoog in mind. The Minimoog's funky and flatulent little brother.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 10:29 am Hey, if Cherry can do the MG-1, I can want a Prodigy. Or a Moog Rogue. Or The Source. These were the "lesser Moogs" yes, but they were still cool but limited little synths.

Damn synth-market dominators. They're bigger and bolder and rougher and tougher.jens wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 1:01 pm TBH since a (brand-new) Dreadbox Nymphes can be had for far less than a Alpha Juno goes for these days, I see absolutely no point in purchasing the latter anymore. The second hand synth-market is now dominated by crazy collectors and disgusting traders. It's basically dead for the most part of it.

Yeah, well, I guess it's safe to say that you missed my point entirely if you seek to make fun of what I wrote like that, so just for you I will spell it out here and make sure to explain it as simply as I can (no idea whether that will suffice or not, heh):
As soon as an older synth (or any other piece of "vintage"-gear) becomes popular (here, over at Gearspace, Vintage Synth Explorer, whereever), there's traders who quickly seek to buy them all up. And then they seek to sell them at Ebay, Reverb, etc.for horrendous prices. And it's mainly the collectors (and - frankly put - clueless idiots) willing to shell out that much for such an old piece of gear. The value of the instrument gets mythified. And that is exactly the game you are playing as well here. For about 450-500$ you get a brand-new (reverb aside) fully analog 6xpoly desktop synth made in Europe by a small boutique manufacturer that is more flexible, powerful, versatile than the Junos (and certainly much easier to program than the Alphas) but can sound quite similar (yet better (more analog) imo). So yeah....
https://youtu.be/sOjDo6SrhH0
Now you can of course say "but it doesn't sound the same at all!" but that is part of the kind of mythification I just mentioned - it's how this absurd second hand market manages to justify itself.
No, of course it doesn't sound the same - because it sounds worse.

You can’t say the word “dominated” in reference to an Alpha Juno and not expect people to bring up the song. Or do you not know it?
Alpha Juno’s and HS-10’s still sell for $300-400 and controllers for it have never been cheaper or more plentiful. More importantly, it has that exact sound. Nothing else does it so precisely, not even the Alpha Juno 2 and MKS-50.

I'm still waiting for the Kurzweil K2000 emu.
I'll just wait over here...

I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

I would take the Dreadbox over the Juno any day.jens wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 11:10 pm Yeah, well, I guess it's safe to say that you missed my point entirely if you seek to make fun of what I wrote like that, so just for you I will spell it out here and make sure to explain it as simply as I can (no idea whether that will suffice or not, heh):

No, tbh I have no idea what song your refer to... in fact I didn't realize at all that you were alluding to something...
Not here - not nearly. If that was the case, I wouldn't have said a word. Here in Europe they sell for around 600-800 €/CHF - and Japan is somewhere in between (~500-600).Alpha Juno’s and HS-10’s still sell for $300-400
(But there's also sellers from the US already asking 800-900$ and it is only a matter of time until these traders bought them all up.)

Yes, me too.
(I sold my Alpha Juno because I basically never used it (too tedious to program - even my HT-6000 I find easier to handle in that regard) - and now I lust over the Nymphes.)
