Do you spend more time searching for licks than playing full songs?

I go through phases of this. I'm getting out of the playing complete songs for the time being and trying to get some new (to me) chops. After that I'll prolly jump back into improvising over backing tracks to see if I retained anything.

Lick hunter? No. I try to roll my own, though whatever I come up with is hardly original or groundbreaking.
I've been sitting on the couch or in the garden noodling for years. Now, I'm preparing to record again. When I do so, I'll always play my bits from beginning to end with no punch-ins. I'm also starting to play along with albums again, so entire songs in bunches.

Now that I've got my Tele scooped up with 19 position switching I'm running it through the gamit of every lick I've ever memorized and more.

I'll rather make licks than hunt. I do look up country licks in particular though, just to get the understanding of how they work and make my own, and of course I might copy some, at least partly

Is fishing considered hunting? Hunting fish?
