Andromedo? :D
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

Was thinking of something more Roland-y but I wouldn't say no to an Andromedo. :tu:

I'm big fan of whatever Arturia did with Freaks. Apparently it's some analog algo trying to be wavetable, as opposed to being *just* wavetable or something? I think whatever they did needs to be expanded on, more developers need to try do whatever it is that makes Freak sound so good.

Maybe that Freak parmesan magic can be used to re-create some existing analog emus on a level not seen before? Make poly oberheim and moog emus sound better with this approach?

Post

The Freak has multiple different oscillators, full of goodness :)

Alpha Juno?

Post

Well, if that's it, then it leaves me completely cold. ;) Especially as AudioRealism already has one.

Post

Yeah, like there aren't enough Juno emus running around now, but I guess we need a perfect Hoover sound...

Are we talking about the Cherry Audio "Rare Antiquity"? I wouldn't call the Juno a rare antiquity, at least not rare

I would personally jump for joy if it were an Alpha Juno. I think there are a lot of misconceptions about this synth, one being that since we are (admittedly) oversaturated with emus of earlier Junos, then why would we need this one, but the Alpha has waveforms the 60 and 106 do not, more complex envelopes, adjustable chorus rate, and an entirely different filter altogether. It really does sound distinct, and is capable of much more complex tones than prior Junos, and way more than the hoover sound that it gets pigeonholed for. That said, I get that its filter is considered weak by some and its overall sound is not for everyone - I just happen to like it tremendously.

As for emulations, yes, there is the Audiorealism version, but as some including myself were pointing out earlier in this thread, it doesn't fully capture the Alpha's unique sound in the way that modern analog emulations are now capable.

Here are a couple of comparison clips I made with my own Alpha Juno 1, using two factory ROM patches (Velo Reso and Arpeggiator) followed by ReDominator's version of the same patch:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/jvqj9w8wex8mk ... r.wav?dl=0

I never want to trash a good faith effort to emulate one of my favorite synths, but if the ReDominator's included factory presets are 1:1 parameter-wise (and I assume they are since it imports sysex from the hardware) then to my ears, there is an obvious difference in the overall tone and the behavior of the envelopes. So when I say there's room for improvement, I mean it constructively, but it's also the reason I consider a definitive emulation of the Alpha to be "still missing" in 2023.
