If you had to stick to one DAW, which one would it be?

im one of 3 it seems.
i use mainly audio these days, and for that samplitude does more than enough for what i need.
on the rare occasion i need to edit midi, i still use the old faithful orion, i just know where everything is.
bidule i use as a modular environment rather than as a host per se (i still maintain daw is the whole computer and such, not just the host).

You can't possibly prove it, you're just talking bollocks. You want it to be true but there is no way you or I or anyone else can know because there are simply way too many variables. The sheer number of people around who are my age, with their massive spending power, would be enough to keep Rock on top of the pile. Then there is C&W, which is massive and utterly eschews electronic instruments. It was a stupid thing to have said and, rather than walk it back, you choose to double-down on your stupidity. I only look at art made by sculptors – and only in metal, because stone is for amateurs. Acrylics are right out, because only n00bz use them. And gods help you if you choose watercolor — you'll get laughed right out of the gallery. Don't you know that art is solely determined by whatever technology happens to be fashionable at any given moment?!

The thing like most internet conversations, is the truth is some where in the middle. R&B/Rap Pop and Country are the most popular, but it in no way means other genres are gone. I mean if Metal bands consume Metal music, the sheer number of freaking metal bands means they’re doing fine! Plus it’s only the rare actual rock band that ever broke through to multi platinum. Looking at Billboard charts over the decades there’s mostly bad pop that we’ve all forgotten. Remember how big nonsense songs like Disco Duck, It’s a Heartache, and Muskrat Love were in the supposed heyday of rock were?BONES wrote: Fri Jul 07, 2023 12:11 amYou can't possibly prove it, you're just talking bollocks. Interesting but absolutely meaningless. There isn’t a DAW out there that has more pro users than hobbyists or people attempting to make money off music who never will. So no reason to judge any DAW or discussion by whether Pros chime in or not.dellboy wrote: Thu Jul 06, 2023 5:45 pmIt would be interesting to know how many KVR members are in the "audio world" as full time professionals.machinesworking wrote: Thu Jul 06, 2023 3:04 pm the reality is in the audio world, Mac use is exponentially higher than any other pro area.

It's a bit sad that anyone here is so desperate that "their" DAW is the one "that pros use". Quite pathetic really. And utterly irrelevant to absolutely any music they make or the way they make music. It ain't going to be better just because you use a different DAW.

Absolutely. For me as a motion graphics and visual effects artist, none of the tools I use at work are things I would even consider using for my own personal work. Adobe have the pro graphics market cornered but their applications are measurably worse than half-a-dozen others, some of which are free. I'd take Da Vinci Resolve and Blender over any of the industry standard tools in my profession all day long and for any job.
In the whole list there are only 3 or 4 albums you'd even vaguely consider "Electronic Music" and most of those belong to Madonna.
And, of course, "Metal" is shorthand for "Heavy Metal Rock" which means it's all on the Rock side of the ledger.machinesworking wrote: Fri Jul 07, 2023 2:36 am The thing like most internet conversations, is the truth is some where in the middle. You're talking singles charts but album charts will tell a completely different story. Wikipedia has a page of the biggest selling albums of all time and you have to get into the 30s before you see any hip-hop. Even that's Eminem and it's only one place ahead of James Horner's Titanic score.Plus it’s only the rare actual rock band that ever broke through to multi platinum. Looking at Billboard charts over the decades there’s mostly bad pop that we’ve all forgotten.

It’s great to see Bitwig doing so well in the poll, it’s come along way.
As I am primarily a guitarist, it’s Studio One for me…but could just as easily be Cubase or Reaprt or Logic…they are all very similar in reality.
If I was just doing electronic music it would be between Bitwig and Live,,,,if I could only have one of those I would probably go Live as I just got a PUSH 3!

Apple’s worldwide PC market share dropped between the first quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023, from 8.6% to 7.2%, according to IDC data.Who said it's failing? It used to be the undisputed no. 1 choice of professionals and part-timers alike. Nobody would describe it as such today. What failed was Apple's ploy to force more people to buy Macs. FCP definitely helped sell a lot of Macs into post-production houses but killing off the Windows version of Logic didn't really have the same effect.machinesworking wrote: Thu Jul 06, 2023 7:18 amLogic is clearly one of the top five DAWs. To think that it’s failing because Apple bought it is silly. It's ubiquitous amongst the 7.2% of people with a Mac, which is to say that it's not ubiquitous at all. I'd be very surprised if there are as many users today as there were when it was cross-platform.It’s ubiquitous, what more do you want?
You are right to say that Apple has less performed in 2022 certainly because it performed so well the years before in particular since the M1.
But the data that really maters is that its market share has been multiplied by 3 (3!) Since 10 years.
MacOS X was 7% of computers in 2013, it is 21% now as we speak....
I invite you to do a bit of data mining here, it is quite funny....

If you don't chose Bitwig you lose the fantastic modulation systems they have. For electronic music it is really ground breaking in my view...

wow, that's something I was totally unaware of and did not expect, especially considering I've been seeing every other person I know, buying a Mac. Can't say that I'm sad about it though haha, I'm a long time PC/Windows user and will probably be one for a long time. I don't know, but for some reason I''ve always been on the other side of Apple. No Mac but Windows, No iPhone but Android. No Airpods but Sony's/Nothing. And it's not something that I planned or that I hate Apple, it's just been a natural path for me.
