Ambient Online Compilation: Vol 25 was released earlier today, featuring 39 tracks (38 of which I haven't yet heard), but if previous compilations are anything to go by, this should be well worth listening to. It features over 5 hours of music, comprising 39 tracks of diverse ambient styles, all made by members of Ambient Online. This compilation is available as a "name your price" release, so it should suit all pockets, and prove to be a wise acquisition.
This track was made in EXT64 over four evenings beginning at the end of November 2022. I would describe this as ambient, with a passing nod to a couple of my favourite albums of the '80s.
https://soundcloud.com/whatsisname/lens
Recorded/Mixed in EXT64beta1
Mastered in T-Racks 5
Movers and Shakers:-
Absynth5
Dune2
Valhalla Shimmer
NewFangled Audio EQuivocate
Satin
Linear Phase EQ
EQP-1A
DR - 10
The album may be found here:-

EDIT:20230817 - I made a minor remix of this yesterday. I have improved the stereo placement of 3 Absynth instances, adjusted the levelling of one of them, and tweaked the EQ to remove some harshness.

An unexcepted bundle of ominous/soft alarming noises and calming tones. At some points, it almost sounds like vocal (whisper) samples were used. Clear mix with great dynamic range. Nice job.

Yeah, technically done very well, wide, balanced, clean...
Very good sound design.
Musically also it follows it's initial idea and doesnt contain occasional wrong moves, which often happen in noobish minimalistic arrangements )
Interesting journey, I like it )

What a big, bright, clear sound this track has.
Lots of different things happening but it all fits nicely together.
That Valhalla Shimmer really delivers in your capable hands.
Enjoyed

All of the sounds on here are from Absynth (except for the guitar-like synth which is Dune2). It's a pity that Absynth has been abandoned, as it is such a powerful synth.Genetic_Junk wrote: Fri Aug 04, 2023 11:06 pm An unexcepted bundle of ominous/soft alarming noises and calming tones. cool and high quality sounds!
i heard some "voice"-like sound (?!) in the beginning. would you reveil how it was made? is it abysnth, too?
overall a really good listen!
(btw. is there an ambient community? how are these compilations put together?)

it is better to have a track with some mistakes than a track without any soul

I am getting images of spelunking underground caves. This is more tense than what I would normally think of as ambient. Very solid track nonetheless.
The main synth sounds are extremely cool. Reminiscent of 80s TD perhaps the Tangram era?
There are a lot of sounds with loud quick attacks. And other sounds are quite ringy/buzzy. Personally I would prefer to mellow out these sounds slightly so I am not constantly on edge while listening to this.
Great job overall.

Most of the sounds are Absynth factory patches, although I made some envelope changes to a couple of them. I only have 5 different sounds on here, which leaves me quite a lot of space to make use of in the soundstage, and makes the mixing a lot simpler.Medvedium wrote: Sat Aug 05, 2023 9:12 am Yeah, technically done very well, wide, balanced, clean...
Very good sound design.
Recently, I seem to have got to the point where I don't feel the need to keep adding parts to tracks which are essentially complete. I think it's a more efficient use of my time.Medvedium wrote: Sat Aug 05, 2023 9:12 am Musically also it follows it's initial idea and doesnt contain occasional wrong moves, which often happen in noobish minimalistic arrangements )

I've just found a couple of minor problems with the stereo placement of the Absynth parts which was weighting the sounds towards the left channel, so I'm hoping to remix this sometime in the next couple of days. I'm also going to take a look at a slight resonance issue while I have the project open.
Thanks very much for taking the time to listen and comment, Medvedium. Glad you liked it

I listened to "Lens" - isn't that your track?
It's nicely urban and dark, sort of "industrial" without the drums.
It is arranged in a rather minimalist way. I could well imagine it as
film music or even radio play music.
In any case, the piece "Lens" has such a beautiful, gloomy character,
as if someone were wandering through the tunnels and underground
of a city of millions and seeing and examining all sorts of stuff there.
Very nicely done, I like it!

I would credit the source sounds from Absynth for contributing to the sonic clarity here.
Shimmer was the first "exotic" reverb I bought (back in 2012), and I still use it frequently.

I loved it. Wonderfully evocative soundscapes. I've had Absynth for years, but never done anything with it. This makes me want to pull it out and dust it off.

I like those FM style sounds and processed samples. There is an industrial quality to them, but also very mystical. A perfect soundtrack for a sci-fi movie I guess. It feels like the scientists have found a very advanced technology in an alien ruin (a data center perhaps). It also feels like the discovered knowledge carries deep revelations about the universe that can define the future of humanity (in the good way or the other).
