I think they need to issue a new update and in this update it has the previous version (the one that users had two days ago) with the same name as it was then and the new one but with proper suffix this time.
Can't say for sure they will do it, but they have access to that, my suggestion.

All your existing projects will continue to open normally and work just as they always used to even after this latest set of updates. This is of utmost importance of course and NI doesn't ever want to break your old projects if it can be helped. In order to achieve that, NKIs are not called up when loading a DAW project - the latest used state is embedded into the project file. This is why the project file can grow large when using a lot of large orchestral libraries etc.

This does mean that if you want to use, for example, some of those Play Series libraries after the latest update, you will need K7 to open them. But you don't need the full version, the free Player will of course be sufficient.
mabian wrote: Sat Sep 16, 2023 10:51 am @zvenx, what makes you think that the data saved in the project should save the situation itself?
Kontakt works like that in ALL hosts!

Now, what you can do is load one of your projects and save the NKI from whatever Kontakt instance you have back to your hard drive, so that you have it available to load in another project if you wanted (rather than the NKS2 updated K7.6 version we just released).

Just FYI, more and more product will be updated this way because we obviously want to update them with NKS2 support, but for that, Kontakt version requirement is 7.6 minimum, since NKS2 parameter descriptions and navigation are set via KSP commands, which older Kontakt versions know nothing about.

From NI's side, generally duplicated NKIs for all the different minor product updates are avoided because there'd be a ton of confusion in Maschine/KK browsers. Analog Dreams, Ethereal Earth and Hybrid Keys are exceptions because the framework behind them was completely rewritten from scratch, and NI wanted those products updated to reap the benefits of the v2.0 framework, while still retaining all the original patches.

Fair enough, but then maybe na should have the ability to down grade.

It's a complicated topic (more than you might think)...

Or at least, if you recall, I and others have asked for NA to only delete its download optionally.. that is after it downloads and install, the download stays unless you tick the option to delete it.. That way the user can be responsible for keeping their own backups...
I know you can do it now, that after it finished downloading, whilst installing you copy it elsewhere, that way the installer doesn't know where you have copied it to and you have that copy.
I use to do that but it just became like a game of quick reflexes.

@mabian: Could you please edit the thread title appropriately, just so we don't spread confusion any further?

This is really not a problem as opening post implies it would be.

Thanks!

please support a downgrade, kontakt 7 is total crap and causes extrem loading times, thats why i want to stay on kontakt 6 and don't need any nks2, i am glad that i have sold my s49mk2
I was hoping for fix and updated all library. I would like to open Stradivari Cello and violin again in K6 !!!

In Native access, I currently have a choice of installing Kontakt 5, Kontakt (no version number which is "6", or Kontakt 7.

Assuming your Native access shows these same options, uninstall Kontakt 7 manually and reinstall Kontakt (6).

I think sacer means library updates like those that came today or yesterday.

kontakt 6 is still working, but can't open the new updated kontakt libraries, which are now K7 exclusive for the fancy new nks2 mk3 keyboards. Since this friendly update, K6 can't open them again, and if i have read evil dragon, NI plans to update some more Kontakt libraries, which will open only in K7. I still have also Kontakt 3, 4 and 5 installed, to open old projects. It won't be a problem to open these libraries in K7, if K7 wouldn't have these long loading times. Battery4, Maschine2 and Komplete Kontrol are also affected -> I also would like to downgrade to old versions, where they had fast loading times. Also since last update of Guitar Rig6 - iot also takes much longer to open the plugin. So I won't update Reaktor and MassiveX and futur kontakt library updates - lesson learned

You have long load times in Maschine 2?
Hmmm that is very unusual.

On my PC I have very slow load times with Battery 4. Spent two hours on a video call with a developer to try and figure it out, I don't' think they ever did. Don't have that have issue on the mac.

I also have extraordinarily long load time on mac and pc using quick load from the header in K7. NI is aware of that, but in general I dont' have long load times on mac or pc on any other of their software.

You sure it isn't your system?

maybe i have to much plugins, but everything else opens very smooth, ok some softube like amp room with lots of ilok stuff takes 10 seconds, but i have only these Issues with NI. I have a high end AMD System with 5950X on m.2 4th gen ssd. These problems aren't only on windows, lots of users also have these issues on Mac. Support was also not able to help us. The only optimisation was deleting some XML files from Korg and some other NKS libraries, but therefor you don't have these NKS files anymore. Thats why i sold my S49 MK2 - NKS is running for me in whole disaster. I have spend a lot of money on https://www.freelancesoundlabs.com/ , but moving these librarie folders, also doesn't help. I have spend much money in the NKS eco system and don't want to use it anymore with these loading times - thats a real workflow killer. Especially ifg you open a project in ableton, which has an instance of Maschine, Komplete Kontrol or Battery 4.
Maybe NI is aware of these problems, i don't expect any fix in Kontakt 7 - maybe it will get adressed on Kontakt 9. I have really old tickets some years ago, which never get fixed. There are so much other developers out there, which need some days or months. Kontakt 6 is opening in 3 seconds, so it was a nice alternative to use my libraries, but now they have a new keyboard and they make K6 abandon and incompatible to their libraries - what have they smoked ?
The problem on Maschine 2 is that it uses the same kontakt 7 engine. When i open Komplete kontrol for example, it has the same long loading time than kontakt 7, but if i open a kontakt 7 library in komplete kontrol it opens as fast as in kontakt, so Komplete kontrol doesn't load kontakt 7, it contains kontakt 7 - i bet also battery 4 uses Kontakt 7

There is a 2.0 and the original and Kontakt 6 reads the original just find.

See? Nothing to get grumpy over. Everyone can calm down. :hihi:
lol.. clearly this is your first day at kvr...
no one will ever admit they were wrong, or being chicken little the sky is falling.

2.0 was released year or two ago and worked fine in K6. Now 2.0 nki gets overwritten by update with the same name, while nkr resources container in Samples folder is separate and named 2.1

@EvilDragon I think the thread title is still correct because it states a fact. The problem which has proven not to be there is the ability to load old projects with the libraries loaded in k6. But the libraries do require kontakt 7.6+, or the player with the same version, to be opened in New projects now...

Post

Trying to keep up with this thread, still a bit confused. Is this the summary so far? When all products are updated to the latest version in NA:

All old projects open fine under K6 (or earlier versions of Kontakt where applicable)?

Some products no longer appear in the library windows of K6 and new instances cannot be loaded (examples?)

Some products continue to appear in the library windows of K6, and there are two sets of nkis and resources (examples?)
