Wow. A delay to Cubase 13, and everyone is currently unable to buy any upgrades for any products as these are online-exclusive.
The Steinberg online shop is currently unavailable. A wide range of Steinberg products is available via our worldwide network of authorized resellers. To find your nearest Steinberg reseller, use our reseller locator.

We know you may have questions about this unusual situation, so please read on for more information. We want to reassure you that we are working hard to reopen our online shop, and that Steinberg itself is operating normally. We are here as always to support you.

Why is the Steinberg online shop currently unavailable?

Our online shop is run on our behalf by a third party, Asknet Solutions AG. Unfortunately, Asknet has entered into self-administered insolvency, and consequently Steinberg has decided to engage a new trusted business partner to restore our online shop.

When will the Steinberg online shop be available again?

We do not have a fixed date for the reopening of the Steinberg online shop, but we are working hard to get the shop available as soon as possible.

Where can I buy Steinberg products now?

A wide range of Steinberg software and hardware products is available via our worldwide network of authorized resellers.

Updates and upgrades for our software products (including Cubase, Nuendo, WaveLab, Dorico, Absolute, and SpectraLayers) are not generally available through our reseller network. All updates and upgrades will be available again as soon as the Steinberg online shop has reopened.

In the meantime, you can download free trial versions of many of our software products and take advantage of all of their functionality for 30 or 60 days (trial duration varies by product).

Are my existing products safe?

All your existing products will continue to work as they always have. Steinberg itself is operating normally, and there is no need for concern about your current products or licenses. Customer data is completely safe.

All products already purchased from the Steinberg online shop are unaffected, and all your existing licenses are similarly unaffected. You can still activate and deactivate your software as normal.

How do I get help with an existing order?

If you have an enquiry concerning an existing order you have placed in the Steinberg online shop, you should contact Asknet directly for assistance. Because Asknet are acting on Steinberg’s behalf, they remain responsible for all queries relating to payment, fulfilment and delivery. To contact Asknet, submit a ticket via their web site or send an email to customerservice@asknet.com

What about upcoming product releases?

In the short term, planned product releases will be delayed until we have a new online shop in place. We have many exciting products in the release pipeline and are looking forward to showing you what we have been working on. Unfortunately, we must ask for your patience while we work to reopen our online shop. Our new products are worth waiting for!

EDIT update 25/10/2023 - Steinberg have switched from Asknet to Fastspring, and the store is soft-launched with offers for those on the mailing list. I believe the plan is to restore to a full opening on Friday 27th.

EDIT update 26/10/2022 - the shop seems to be fully live again now.

Yeah, that explains it. Looks like the entirety of the overarching company was:
(1) submitting charges through Nexway's account for an entity that
made false statements to consumers, (2) assisting and facilitating Tech Live Connect's unlawful
scheme involving making misrepresentations to consumers about the safety and performance of
their computers, and (3) laundering Tech Live Connects charges through the credit card system.
Defendants engaged in the violations with knowledge or conscious avoidance of knowledge of
Tech Live Connect's unlawful practices.
We shall see orchestral machines with a thousand new sounds, with thousands of new euphonies, as opposed to the present day's simple sounds of strings, brass, and woodwinds. -- George Antheil, circa 1925 ---

Yeah, have to agree. I understand Steinberg have nothing to do with Asknet's dodgy goings on but anyone who might have put money in for a Steinberg product and lost it to Asknet is going to feel pretty fuckked off with Steinberg if they are washing their hands already.

They're saying "Because Asknet are acting on Steinberg’s behalf, they remain responsible for all queries relating to payment, fulfilment and delivery. To contact Asknet, submit a ticket via their web site or send an email to customerservice@asknet.com" and yet "Our online shop is run on our behalf by a third party, Asknet Solutions AG. Unfortunately, Asknet has entered into self-administered insolvency". So to clarify - go talk to Asknet, who no longer exist. Your $1000 for Cubase pro is not our concern and if you lost it, tough titties mate, you'll have to spend another $1000 to get it at the new shop when it opens...really? :o

I'm a Cubase user from 34 yrs ago (1989). And I generally pay no attention to the usual guff spouted about Steinberg, but if that was me who'd lost $1000, I'd be fkn livid at Steinberg if this is what they are genuinely going to say to customers who paid and lost.

Did I miss something? Has something happened like this? As far as I can tell this is only stopping new purchases and upgrades from their store, and everything else is okay. Is anyone actually out of pocket?

One much more mundane thing that struck me is that I often go back to webshops 18 months later to get receipts that don't always get emailed for the annual tax return. I suppose that option has gone.

Or it could be as easy as Steinberg not having access to Asknet's ordering system.

But, that might not be scandalous enough for some. I understand.

Also, Cubase is not $1000.

Post

Nuendo is $999, so that's close enough.

Post

Nuendo is not Cubase, way more features and I believe almost twice the price.

$999 vs $579.
